An update

I haven't posted in a while because I've been really unwell due to the gastritis.  So, I've seen doctors, been prescribed a cocktail of medicines (non addictive) and pretty much felt miserable.

On the upside, when your stomach hurts that much the last thing you (or at least I) have thought about is codeine.  The idea of putting pills in my stomach that could make this worse is a real deterrent.

So I'm doing pretty well when it comes to being clean and I've also changed my diet drastically, taking my meds and today, I am feeling a lot better.

I hope others are doing well. :-)

I have pretty bad IBS and I take both those classes of drugs on a regular (as-needed) basis; they are life savers for me.

Hope you feel better soon, hon..

Oh and in my case I felt like something had inflated my stomach to the point that it felt like a ball was in there.  Incredibly uncomfortable and painful! :-(

Hi Ruthy,  I so empathise with you!  I'm sorry you ended up in the ER.

I am not taking carafate but am taking stemetil and buscopan for the stomach spasms and nausea as well as a PPI for the acid.  So far it is helping.  Definitely do the diet as it has helped me in just a few days.  Although it's really sad to think of what you can't eat.  However, I've heard that if you do the diet for a number of months you can heal the mucosa.

Thanks for the well wishes and I'm sending some right back to you!

Hi Quince30,
I actually just got home from ER from Gastritis complications. I totally relate to your pain and suffering. Did you have any bleeding? I had bled some. I am now starting a Gastritis diet. I take liquid Carafate to coat stomach. Gee I hope you feel better soon. Does your stomach feel like it has a baseball stuck in it?  I swear I have one in mine. Those deep fried corn dogs at the county fair are over for me lol!

My brother suffers from bouts of gastritis, when his flares up, he insists on drinking coconut water. He says it really helps. Just some "food" for thought, lol. Take care...
