Upcoming Holidays~~~~~~~

Holiday time is fast approaching and can be full of stress and triggers.  We see relapses happen during this time.  The first year i was clean i was told by a very wise person to hit the meetings real heavy and that is what i did.  There are office parties and family gatherings.....our minds can play some real games with us during this time.  For some of us money is tight and that causes stress or the family gatherings have alcohol and people will make comments to you about not drinking. Some may not know you are no longer using and will have a "gift" for you.  Pick and chose where you go and surround yourself with others who share and support you in your recovery.  Your sobriety/clean time should always be the number 1 priority.  Protect it with your life........sara and gnarly

We would also both like to wish all of you and your families a Happy Thanksgiving.  We all have so much to be thankful for~~~~~~

Thanks for this. Sage & wise timely advice. Phew...triggers are bad.

I've talked to my wife and decided to just spend Turkey-Day w/our sons  daughter & grandchildren at one of our sons homes. She is just so fine a woman!

No going out afterwards w/friends etc. It's just too soon for me. That day may come but just not yet. I don't want to have to keep my guard up on a day of thanks. A stress free day w/family is the ticket. I'll probably cry a happy family hug cry even though I think I won't. This addict ain't ready to chomp the "party" bit yet. He!! I may never be able to conquer that temptation but one day at a time will suffice for now. At least for this oxy warrior.

Sincere thanks for the heads up........Simple things like the heads up presented within this thread help those of us whom are still feeling a bit tender. 24 days clean and I'd be willing to bet my bippee that I'll be 26 days clean the day after Turkey Implosion due in large part to the effort of you.....D-Sarah.

Tryptithan (sp?) overdose be damned...sleep inducing Seratonin right???????? Thank you!

yes... Holidays are for sure filled with triggers. I feel as though every trigger I face the stronger I get. Its like I am building a new life in a sense and when I face family gatherings, vacations, and other such stuff while sober I am creating new memories of my new sober life. This is wonderful to me and I am filled with joy to go through this season clear headed and sober.
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.
