Valerian Root to help sleep.

Im on day 35 and bye now i would think i could get a full nights rest. But with all the stress with deaths and things i cant sleep. I was wondering if anyone has ever taken this stuff Valerian root to help them sleep. I dont want to take a pill to sleep kinda defets the purpose of getting of pills. But i have to go back to work tomorrow and i need some sleep. Any other none habit forming things i could take just to get my body back on track? I was thinking about asking the doctor but i have a feeling they would put me on zanax or something for my nervous n such. Really dont want to depend on a doc most of them now a days just want to feed you pills anyways. Thanks in advance :)

I was thinking about trying melatonin but when i googled it said if i wanted to become prego in the future not to take it. That alterial has melatonin in it. Im trying to get my thyroid leveled out so that we can start having some babys. So im not too sure about alterial either. I took that Valerian root last night and i didnt sleep any better.

I found the Alteril to work best for me.  I had tried melatonin and it was a bit hit or miss but the Alteril has a combination of (non-habit forming) of thing.  I use the Valerian Root for anxiety and have found it really helpful for that but I don't think it work on it's own for me for sleep.

"""But with all the stress with deaths and things i cant sleep"""
Stress can sabotage sleep just like drugs can along with withdrawing from them.     Your body may have be well along in ridding itself of drugs but you will have to find a way to deal with anxiety in order to get back to normal rest.    These otc's won't do much unless you re-learn how to react to what life will throw your way.    It's the reason we all took drugs in the first place.

I know what your mindset is, but OTC sleeping pills (most) are non addictive. Valerian Root, Melatonin, Tea, etc. didn't work for me. I still take an OTC sleeping pill when I need to. There are nights when I know I'm tired enough to just sleep or nap. What I'm saying is, don't put every pill in the same category. You'd still take a prescribed antibiotic if you had to. Your body needs rest. It's part of the healing process. However, I would stay away from things like Ambien.

Take care. Hope tonight is a good night of rest!

I take 800mg Valerian root and 50mg HTP 30 mins before bed.  I've done this dance a few times and this always works.

Try Alteril. It contains Valerian Root, Melatonin, and Tryptophan. You can find it at Walgreens or Walmart for certain.

Valerian Root on it's own is very calming...
