Vicoden WD

I’ve been trying to quit for months via a slow taper and every time I get close, I panic, fail and return to where I started.

So this time I’ve boxed myself in, I’ve tapered over the last 5 weeks from 10 per day (7.5 Vicoden) down to 2 a day.  My last pill will be tonight and I have no way to get more for 30 – 40 days at best which was my plan.  I no longer trust myself if they are around!

I leaving on a “business trip” for 5 days to hopefully get through the worst on my own in a hotel room.

I have to do this, want to do this, but am terrified of what’s coming, will 5 days be enough so when I return I can function at work and home?

I’d love any and all advice I can get.

But you can do this, just stay strong and focused.  Remember you are going to have to go through all this some day anyways.  So you may as well just stick this all out and leave it all behind you.  Be Free and Clean again!  And I know you can do it.  You already have shown very strong will power.  Keep posting too please, I like to follow your progress.

Anything you can get into your stomach is good.  Helps dilute the drugs out of your body more and faster.  As well as drinking a lot of fluids.  Taking lots and lots of warm baths is Key!  I can't begin to express how much that helps.  Try and be as relaxed as you can.  I heard once that when someone takes a shower/bath that the body absorbes 8 glasses of water.  I don't know how accurate that is, but it does seem to help, warm baths.  If you can, get a few Valium and/or Ambien.  Those can help you a lot.  Just don't take them for more than about 5-7 days.  So you don't get addicted to those.

20 days and you will be about 95%.  5 days and you will be throught the worst of it all.  You'll just feel like junk.  If you can, pack some Valium and Ambien.  Sleep through all the withdrawals you can.  I never tapered off hydros, I always came off like 20 per day for weeks to months at a time (and never had Valium or Ambien), then BLAM....cold turkey.  I did that like, at least a half a dozen times.  Just kept relapsing.  Look at me..I've taken 3 Ambien in my life and not had Valium in many years (and probably less than 12 valium in my life), and I recommend them to people.

ochooked - Yep, that was my plan, tossed myself into a situation where I had no choice but quit!  I also told a very close friend yesterday about my struggles knowing this would further my chance of never returning to pills.  I can't believe how much better I feel just talking to all of you, thank you so much!   Now I just ride it out.

Girl - I probably won't bother with the energy drinks / caffeine while there, I was more concerned when I return back to my normal life.  While tapering I'm always tired, I can barely keep my eyes open tired all the stinking time.  It's hard to be productive at anything.  Is yogurt any good for this process?

Man, I am so impressed with your preparation to quit.  I did this a month ago and did much the same way ----  I told my doctor so there was no going back -  like burning the bridge in case I got weak and thought about turning back---- then I told a few close friends, my wife (from which I got huge support) and then found a good person who understood addiction to be accountable to.  It worked -- wasn't easy but I got off the dope after 14 year Oxy addiction.  The only mistake I made was using Suboxone to "help" and that stuff is really addictive so set me back.  But I got through it and I can tell by the seriousness of your post that you will too. My only advice is to allow yourself the time after detox to get your energy back -- it may be slow coming but give yourself some time and be patient --  I wish you all the best.

I think if your just gonna be relaxing in a hotel dont bother with any caffeine or energy drinks. In fact you wont feel like eating or drinking anything most likely. try to make yourself drink gatorade for the electrolytes and get your self a couple high protein smoothies. you know like the ones in the yogurt section at the grocery store. there pretty east  to get down when you dont feel like eating. Do you have a fridge in your room. You might be able to request one or bring an ice chest. the smoothies are really good to have on hand. Also check out the Amino Acid Protocol on the right side of the home page. you could go to GNC and they could help you gather it all. I sure wish I would have done that when I had to go through W/D.I sthere a jacuzzi at the Hotel? you probably wont feel like going or you could just take nice warm baths. I might get reemed by someone for saying this but a little wine helped relax me as well.

Dezdon - My goal was to physically be away from family and work.  I'm planning on hiking, taking photographs, swimming and anything else I can think to keep my mind off these things.  Also, I'm a small business owner so email, phone & internet will keep me going too.

I just want to make sure I can get as much rest as possible; the worst part is the lack of sleep.

Hi,
Im in the same boat. I am going to start tapering with hydros from a 80mg a day oxy habit that I tend to snort. i have the vicoden to do a quick taper with. I wish I had more vicoden to do a longer taper, but In a way Im glad i dont,. the sooner i can get clean and feel the real pain and judge it, the better.
I hear alot of people say here to keep busy. i dont know if locking yourself in a hotel room is the best idea. All you'll have to do is sit around and feel things. Do try to get out and walk the grounds or take yourself out for a nice lunch or dinner if you feel like it. Pamper yourself.
im gunna keep myself busy with some wood working projects I have been putting off for years. i have the wood all laid out and everything. Im gunna crank up the radio and down some soda pop and keep busy. im not going to let this get me ..again. Last time, i laid in bed in agony for the whole time and all I was doing was thiking about how bad i wanted to make it all go away, by using. It wasnt healthy.
Good luck and keep in touch with the forum. this place is such a blessing when yoour going through the w/d, taper or trying to keep sane.
Peace,
-Dez

Hey there brother,

I have did the same so many times with the taper thing...I remember when I was down to 3-4 a day over 1 year ago...but then I just never made it past the first day...

Well you said it perfectly...."  I no longer trust myself if they are around! "

Now that you know and admit this...and have blocked out your supply...shows you have a true and honest motivation to quit right here and now...you have done a GREAT JOB in tapering down to 2 a day....now as you said...its time to drop them, and get your life back !!

The next 5 days should be okay...as long as you have access your room all the time...

It will be so worth it...and after the 5 days, you should start to see the light..and it just keeps getting better and better with everyday!  Dont let anything stop you from keeping and remembering your true motive for quitting..even when times get rough...it will pass, and just keep remebering that it will pass, and think about what is waiting ahead for you...a happy abundant drug free life..!!

Keep posting, and let us know how your doing!   By the time you can get anymore (30-40 days you said )...I highly doubt you will even want to look back....I am at 30 Days today...and I will take today..over hydros...anytime of this day and week!!

God Bless and Stay Strong!

Todd

okcookie, I did 3 days once before but it was not planned and I was at 8 - 10 per day.  It was bad!  I like the feeling they give me but have wanted off for months and I'm ready to quit.  I've planned my excape for awhile and figured the out of state hotel would be best.  You put me at ease and I thank you!!

I have been through W/D many times. I think what JNT70 said is exactly right. You should be through the worst of the physical in 5 days but the mental part stays for quite a bit longer. Fatigue and Depression. Force yourself to go for casual walks at least. Also the Amino Acid Protocol I think looks like it would be good and help alot. I have never tried it but wish I would have. Good Luck!!!

Everyone is different, and it really depends on how deeply psychologically addicted you are, but at least in terms of physiology, after a 5 week taper from 75 mg daily to 15 mg, to just 7.5 mg, you should be alright. 5 days is enough time to get through the worst of the physical in most cases. And a hotel room is nice and comfy, work free (room service) with plenty of TV. So, by the time you get back expect to be past the runs, most of the sweats, the RLS, etc. but to still be tired and maybe to still have trouble sleeping. Depression is normal post-withdrawal, but you can fight that with exercise.

Stay strong
