What can you do for boredome triggers....

I have been opiate user for 5 years and I am over the physicals but still have motivation issues when it comes to doing chores or work. I have only had 30MG of Roxi/Lortab in the last umteen days..I honestly lost count at the moment. Anyways, as long as I am doing stuff like golfing, going out to dinner or boating like today I am completely normal, happy and releasing a natural high. Now, when I get home that is when the cravings, motivation and mental games start. I  mean I am naturally tired from taking the boat out and washing it in this god awful heat but cravings are killing me because I am now bored! Just wondering what some of you do when you sit home because that is what I have done for the last 5 years. Sat home and ate pills because it made everything content! Gaming, watching movies, working etc....was all fun on pills but now I sometimes just sit here soooo bored but I am exhausted from boating earlier today.

Getting into a recovery program such as NA or AA will give you sober people to hang out and fellowship with as well as many fun things to do outside of meetings. The are both programs of abstinence though, so if your still using things other than ur drug of choice, they dont do things like that.

I too go crazy when I'm here alone.  That's why I am either cleaning, cooking or coming here to mh to post.  (not necessarily in that order!!!!)

As ibkleen mentioned, check out a meeting.  It's amazing how my attitude changes after I come home from one.

All I can add is to try and stay busy or distracted.  The movies are a good idea, especially good comedies.  Build a jigsaw puzzle, do a crossword, learn to ride a unicycle.

Goodluck!!!!

Hey I totally agree with you. I could be working or at school or completely occupied all day and distracted, and then the second I have nothing to do my mind immediatly wanders down the wrong paths. It's crazy how just one idle second and i'm back wanting to get high. I struggled with this so much, there were a few things I found that helped me though. Watching a TV show that I really liked always helped distract me, especially if it made me laugh, laughter completely distracts me. I live near the ocean so going to the water always helps as well. Sometimes if I was really bored and really started to crave getting high, i'd go for a drive and listen to music and not bring my phone, so that there was no way I could call somebody to sell me one (i bought off the street). The thing that helped me the most is being around people. If i'm with a sibling or a friend, just talking with them, laughing, hanging out, it totally distracts me. These are some suggestions, I hope the help a bit for you.

I listen to a ton of music and that always helps me.  I also cleaned a ton of things early in my recovery.  Went thru closets that had been neglected big time!!  Watching funny movies is always good, sitting outside and just breathing in the fresh air was always great for me too.........

1. Get rid of the pills. Get rid of the people who give/sell you pills. Tell your doctor who may give you pills that you have a problem. Basically, burn your bridges.

2. Join a support group such as AA or NA. Get involved with the group and make new friends---sober friends.

3. Keep talking and stay honest.
