What happens when people snort a pill

Hello,  I have a friend who has started to take pills via the nose.  I was wondering what are the short/long term effects of them doing the pill via snorting it.  I know it will enter the blood stream quicker but wanted to know what other long term effects I should look out for.

Your Friend has a big problem .. snorting pills is just the next step in the game soon that will not be good enough and needles will be the next step and so on please get your friend some help..

You really are a caring friend to research the effects of snorting meds. But, just in case you're asking for yourself, please listen to these folks who posted above me. They know what they're talking about!

What happens is that the pills are filled with inert substances which settle in the lungs and can't be removed. The effect is exactly the same as inhaling asbestos. Ten or twenty years later you end up on oxygen unable to take deep breaths or cross the street.

To me, the onset of snorting is an indication that the disease of addiction is progressing and taking control of the host. Not unlike the onset of blackouts or morning drinking for an alcoholic. It's just one of those things that is a red flag, because "normal" people don't do that.  

Of course, we addicts have a startling inability to see (or perhaps an amazing ability to ignore) huge red flags that are obvious to everyone around us - i know i did. You might talk to your friend - perhaps suggest that they read some posts on here and get a flavor of what it's like once the fun has been used up and you're trying to get a now-unwelcome monkey off your back. Maybe read the first 59 pages of NA's basic text (it's available on-line http://www.coastalcarolinaarea.org/literature/books/b_t.pdf).

But you cant save your friend.  As they say, you didn't cause it, you cant control it, and you can't cure it.

Sorry no one has replied. It is Sunday and kind of slow out here.
I snorted many drugs in my life and it was NOT good. Very Dumb now that I look back. Snorting, fixing or smoking it will cause more damage quicker.
When we snort we loose all those nose hairs. It also hurts the lungs real bad. Snorting will cause the membranes to break down, thus causing some holes inside the nose. Have them Stop now before it gets any worse. If they get pills that they are snorting, then they have crossed that line into Addiction. If they are snorting street drugs..WELL you never know what is in the stuff these days. I used to tell ppl to go ahead and snort that, but it might be the last time you do. It is serious and it will Kill you sooner or later.
I sure Pray they will STOP the insanity of snorting drugs!! Prayers go out!
