What is it like on a medical detox unit?

Can anyone tell me what to expect when I go into a medical detox unit?? I've never been to detox and am not sure what to expect.

My pain Mgt dr told me they get people off meds over a couple hours on a the weekend. Not sure what he meant but "sounds" a lot better than dealing with wd. But it doesn't sound right.

I went to a nice inpatient facility, and it was great. Now, moat people there were voluntary so the rules were a bit more slack than at others, but if you can afford it, fo it. At mine, they educated ms on my brain and why I was an addict, and even had a family week for my wife, which helped alot. but If it's just a detox facility, they may just make sure you don't stroke out while you wd and send you in your way. What type of facility are you going to?
