Will I get addicted to this drug?

So suffer from gallstones, got diagnosed back in august and was sent a referral to see a surgeon.  Got a consultation date for December 9 but in the meantime had to control pain. Doctors try almost every narcotic and I'm allergic to them all except for torodol which is basically Motrin. Went to see the surgeon on december 9 and told me that I was put on tier 1 which is the fastest easy for me to get surgery. She said I have to wait between 1 to 3 months.
Now recently I have been getting worse went to the ER because the Motrin 800 mg and Tylenol are not working anymore plus so they gave me to try dilaudid less than 1 mg and it worked took the pain away.
Now here is my question the doctor gave me prescription of dilaudid of 2 mg but I am terrified of getting addicted to it and I also suffer from depression. My mom actually took me to the ER yesterday December 30 because I was having suicidal thoughts . This drug just scares me and makes my anxiety worse.
I don't know what to do. If I don't take the pills I'll be in pain but if I do I get all depressed and might do something harmful to myself.

Hmmm, I don't know what to tell you but the ER doctor will know.  If Dilaudid is making you suicidal, stop taking it.
I am sure there is something else you can take that isn't as strong.

Dilaudid is very strong and highly addictive.  Stop taking it and go back to the ER and ask them for something much weaker.  Norco should be adequate.

I know dilaudid is extremely addictive. I've never had an issue with it, simply because I have never had access to it.  But I was given it after I was recovery from surgery (inpatient in the hospital) and wow, yeah it totally took the pain away. But I can also see how addictive it can be because I have a problem with pain pills...and that stuff was crazy. I had a diseased gall bladder a few years back and required surgery to remove it. I was having extreme gallbladder attacks...and it was so painful that I was laying in bed crying. I was schedule a month and a half out for surgery....so I got prescribed a big fat bottle of hydrocodones and my dr pretty much told me to dose myself as much as I needed to because gallbladder pain is a b*tch! I'd say that it the dilaudid is making you have suicidal thoughts, I think that is a huge trigger to stop taking it.  I know you're in pain...I've been there, but you don't want the suicidal thoughts turn into more than just thoughts. I would talk to your dr about your options...and let him know about your side effects from the dilaudid.  Good luck to you...hang in there

Yes you can become addicted to it. Everyone's body is different and tolerates drugs differently.  I thought I could never become addicted.   I was wrong.
