Is coming off .5 mg. of suboxone easier than 4 mg

I know this question sounds stupid but I've been on some form of opiate for 8 years.  Suboxone for the last 3 or 4, my dr. told me it is safe to take forever.  I don't want to.  I tapered from 16 mg. per day to 4 mg. per day.  I have been off for 10 days.  Still feel horrible.  I want to go to the dr. tomorrow and go back on and taper down more.  I just am not looking forward to going through this again.  It MUST be easier.  Right??

Please don't do it! You've already made it 10 days and you will start to see a difference soon!! If you go back then you'll still have to go through the w/ds again, so you might as well just keep sticking it out. Stay strong and please don't go back on it when you see your doctor. You really are at a turning point and in just a couple more days you'll see a difference. There are many who jumped from way more than what you were on and they can relate and share their stories! You can do this! Keep pushing through and be that mom and wife that you're meant to be!!

Oh yeah, the Thomas Recipe is great, get what you can. I found the amino acids and protein drinks to help the most. EmergenC helps water to go down and has all the electrolytes and some B vitamins your body needs. Try to walk and do something. I felt like my blood was mercury and my muscles were lead, but a short walk gave some relief. I always suggest saunas and swimming, but I know how hard it is to go in public. Hang in there and definitely keep us posted. You are healing each minute that passes.

Agree completely with the above replies.  11 days is great.  It WILL take some time, but you've already come this far.  It would stink to start over again and even if you taper down to a sliver, most people on subs still have SOME level of w/ds.  If there was a chance that by tapering you could avoid w/ds all together, I'd tell you to maybe try that...but there are no guarantees.  Even at low doses, sub w/d is typically rough.

You can do this!  Get the stuff from the Thomas recipe and talk to your doctor...there are things he can give you (ie Clonidine) that will help somewhat.  Talk to him about it.  I would say at least give it a try!

Keep posting, let us know how you're doing!

I only used subs for 20 days, but came off a 150-250mgs a day street methadone addiction. It was strange, I could feel the sub detox and have compared with other people's experience over the last year. There is something to the 21 day acute detox, though it varies. It was rough for me, once the sub detox ended, I was right back in methadone withdrawal. PAWS. Methadone has a long withdrawal as well.

The thing is, 20 more days sounds like a lot, but compared to the rest of your life, it won't be long and you will be free. Time will speed up, your love for your family will be more pure and profound. You have much to look forward to. Don't think about tomorrow, just make it through today. You are home, you have support, you can do this. There will never be a GOOD time to quit and withdrawal happens no matter what. You are so close.

Again, I support whatever you chose. I don't think you will regret fighting this right now, today. I am cheering for you and your family. Mom is almost home!! Yeah!!! My kids really see a difference in me. I am likely more happy for them than myself, it's hard to say, but I don't regret a thing, even the pain of my detox. Keep fighting, you are already doing it.

I'm currently day 15 off Suboxone! I jumped at .50 mg a day. I've been on it for almost 6 years with no relapses on pills. I would really really try to ride out the rest of this. Sub is known for being a longer lasting detox. You are just going to endure this again when you jump next time. Maybe less severe but it will take a longer time. Weaver is 100% right. I'm still not sleeping and have zero energy but my stomach is almost back to normal! One symptom is disappearing at a time! 10 days is a long time to endure withdrawals. Please try to stick it out. And if you go to that doc appt...be 100% honest. Tell him you've gone 10 days! That's such an accomplishment!!!

How much did you come off of?  And how long were you on something, and does that make a difference?

I don't know what to do?  It's so hard.  I have a dr. app. at 11.  If I didn't have children to care for I would tough it out.  I think I need to re-group taper down more and try again.  Maybe I could go to treatment or something where I can just feel like **** and not have so many demands on me.  My husband is awesome and so supportive but right now he is the bread winner and can't take time off work to help me.  30 days sounds so long.  I'm on day 11 though, it's like I'm right in the middle.  Also, next time I want to try the Thomas recipe and be a little more prepared.  I am strong mentally.  I don't have cravings for opiates, I am just physically dependant.  I got on this **** from a dr. who ""didn't know better"??  Now I know, I wouldn't wish this on anyone.  You all here are so strong and supportive and seriously more knowledgeable than the Drs.  Thank you for the help and I will be back for sure.

The led legs started to fade slowly at 14 days, sleep started returning at 19 days, at 30 days it was mostly mental, which happens with or without a taper. I have found that a taper reduces severity, but bot duration. If you can, I would try to ride this out. You will feel improvement within a week. I know one person who jumped at 16mgs, after 3 yrs, he had a similar detox to those who jump at .5, only more severe symptoms. You are half way there. In 21 days the bupe is out of your system, less than 1% anyway.

If you chose to taper, I would start at as low a dose as you can handle. Many doctors suggest slow taper and skipping days at .5mgs. Definitely get a doctor to advise you. Some doctors switch patients to faster acting opiates for a time, then detox their patients, not very common, but I've seen it.

No matter what, you will feel better in the end. Subs block emotions, even though they don't get you as high as other opiates. Let us know what you decide, we support you either way.

Since you've made it 10 days I think you should just keep plugging through!! 10 days is huge and you don't want to backtrack! Try epsom salt baths...they are amazing and work wonders. Are you taking any supplements? Get everything in the Thomas recipe and start taking it ASAP. Also, be sure to eat bananas (for RLS), drink Gatorade/water/Ensure, and just keep as positive of a mindframe as you can. You can do this. You're already down 10 days and in another 10 you'll feel differently, probably not "normal" but much better. And another 10 after that you should start to see the light at the end of the tunnel. You're doing great and keep posting here!

Well, I'm still nursing, only once a day at night but my son won't go to sleep without it, and weaning right now on top of it all seems too much.  The beupronorphine doesn't go into the breastmilk, but other meds do.  I did ask for help and he gave me Trazadone (garbage) and something else I can't remember the name of.  Both didn't help at all.  No sleep still, RLS  bad, some stomach cramping/discomfort but mostly I can't function through the day every limb is weighted with bricks.  It's all I can do to move.  If I were to hang in there how long??  Any Ideas

As a rule, the lower you can taper down before jumping, typically, the better.  4mg is a pretty high dose to come off of.

The doc I worked for recommended tapering down to at least 0.5mg /day before stopping all together...just an FYI.

I think your plan to talk to the doc is a good one.  If you've been off for 10 days though, you MAY want to try to tough it out and just get done.  10 days is awesome.  Maybe try asking for some help, with things like Clonidine, etc?

What symptoms are you having?
