All I can do is relate to you what happened to me with Ambien. I tried to quit CT after 10mg a night for 9 months and the WDs kicked my Asthma into high gear big-time! Stress causes asthma attacks. Then I looked it all up and found all the other symptoms I was having fell right into place with the list of side effects. Z-drug WD can really damage a persons CNS permanently, along with no sleep for quite a long time. So, I went back on the stuff and did a 4 month SLOW taper. August 8th marked my 3rd year clean from the stuff. Last night I woke up at 3:30am and have been awake ever since. Luckily I can take naps, I'm semi-retired.

The drug mfg. minimizes the taper down to a few weeks, but that didn't work for me because I have Asthma. I would taper if I were you and you should see your prescribing Doctor about your desire to stop your z-drug script. Congrats on your decision to get clean.

For 8 years I had a bad habbit of taking zolpidems and zopiclones.. At the very height of my addiction I would take between 10-12 a night. My pattern was always to get a script for 100 x 10 mg.. then live the happy life for 20 days with 5 a night.. then CT and wait 2 months till the next script.

In my experience the first night I would never get any sleep... the second night I would get 1-2 hours of sleep with very vivid nightmares.. third night a few hours more and so on... Every time it took me 2 weeks to be "normal" or back to stabil. The biggest problem was the part of falling a sleep - I would toss and turn and my mind would wander.. after 14 days I would usually be able to enjoy sleep once again.

It is do-able but it takes a little time.... and yes it is similar to benzos but without the same risc of seizures

I don't know anything about this drug so I just looked it up on the internet. It's a sleeping pill, right? From what I read the withdrawals are similar to benzos (which are dangerous). Do you have a prescription for these? I would suggest talking to your doctor before quitting these cold turkey. I'm sorry you're not feeling well and I think it's great your ready to stop taking these! Hopefully others will be on with more knowledge and can offer better insight. You're in the right place, though!
