One other thing about sub......it's fairly expensive.....even with insurance. But, probably less than what you are paying for all the other drugs you're using.
If you have any major University hopsitals in your area chances are they have a unit that specializes in alcoholism or addiction. If not, ask your family doctor to help you find one.
I agree w/mtgoat about the meeting! 10% of getting clean is the detox, the other 90% is learning HOW to stay sober and live life without drugs. You have lived a great deal of your life using, so it will take some help from another person who has been where you are and can show you what worked for them. I highly recommend the meeting. If not NA, then AA or HA.
I have not done methadone but I have quit opiates CT twice and my last time wasn't able to quit either CT or taper. I chose to go to detox and start suboxone. It is not a cure all or miracle drug. I didn't go on it for an easy way out, but I knew I needed something long term to get my mind and mental status on the right track. Some people stay on it for years, some less than a month. My guess is you would be on it for a good time due to the fact you have used so long, and have not stayed sober. Remember, you can't just take the sub and not do anything to treat your addiction. to do that YOU need to go to meetings or a counselor or someone who can work with you one on one. Learn about WHY you need to take the drugs in order to 'feel' a certain way. We all use for one reason or another, but it's usually because we can't or won't deal with our emotions and life.....on life's terms. Best of luck
to find a local treatment center call mental health tommorow and tell them that you are looking for help
there will be a wait, so get to an na meeting tonight and find some people who can work with you one on one
methadone and suboxone are very similiar, i do not suggest you get on sub, its very hard to get off of
most people that get on it, stay on it for long perionds of time
i am not too far from you, i can possibly help you find a meeting or tx center, if you do not have luck with mental health
you can be helped but its your decsion on how. I am assuming you dont want to go c/t since it wasnt mentioned but if you do look at the thomas recipe at bottom right you could try a taper...works for some you could do a taper and the thomas recipe at the same time or you could try a meth. clinic or suboxone. Did you have a problem with the methadone, you feel it made you worse? Sub. is differant than methadone because you cant get high on it, not at all so that is a plus for most who want to clean up. drs are perscribing way too high of doses in my opinion so you have to be careful about how you are inducted and your dose or you will get stuck on sub too. do your research & try to come up with a plan would be my advice you know what you can deal with & what you cant. I have been on methadone and suboxone but I am not yet finished with the sub so I cant tell you what the end result will be...but I am feeling much better & much more hopeful about this being the end of opiates for me than ever before. I wish you well I check in about 1-2 a day if you want to talk
