If you can taper to a lower dose it will help you quite a bit. It can be tough tapering though. I was able to once, but usually if the pills were there, I would take them. You have to remember, when tapering you won't get the warm fuzzy feeling. It will just help alleviate withdrawals and make them more bearable. It took a lot of courage to tell your family. That just goes to show how strong of a person you are! You're taking the appropriate steps to get your life back and you can. If you cant taper, you may have to go cold turkey. I went cold turkey a while back and was taking over 30 of the 10mg on some days. It can be done. After about a week the worst of the physical withdrawals will be over. Days 3 and 4 were the worse for me and by day 5 I felt much better. Just think, 1 week, it's such a short amount of time. After that it will be a mental battle but gets easier and easier everyday. There are many people that can explain to your family about what to expect and if want them to come on this forum also. It will better prepare them for what's to come. Just stay strong, keep posting, and have faith in yourself. You can beat this! This forum has been a lifesaver for many and I know I couldn't have done it without all of the wonderful people on here.  Best of luck to you!! You can and will beat this addiction!!!!!

Good morning, you have found a great place for support and advice and especially support as you can see from all the great advice these great people have already offered.Sorry you were wait listed ,but this is the next best  thing.I too had a large problem with those pills and had tried to stop but always picked up that bottle again until the day I stumbled on this site.I was amazed there were so many just like me,so I stuck around and read as many posts as I could. It is comforting to know just what to expect, when you have a question answers are moments away.So pick a day get the supplies from thomas recipe(I only used over counter stuff).Clear your schedule for 7-10 days and begin. You can not have any pals around or calling to tempt you with those pills. So you willhave to change that part of your life.It is like the flu the first week, some emotions and cravings for a couple more weeks but I will tell ya it is better than any day on pills and I beleive at 50 pills all your doing is staying out of withdrawl. So enough for now really glad your here,so stick around and read read read till ya get it and want it

Please look at my journal because I feel the supplements I have added to the Thomas recipe have made a huge difference for my fiance and I.  We have been detoxing from methadone since Aug.;07.  We were at 110mg then, tomorrow is our last day at the clinic and we will dose at 7mg., and go ct from there.
Your frame of mind and poitive thinking are two things that can make all the difference in the world.  Please continue to post.  If you have any questions for me, please do not hesitate to ask.  Best of luck and look forward to talking with you again soon.

The people here will inspire you. Because this can be done, you get get off thses damm pills and have your life back. There is alot of happiness just waiting for you. You can do it.  I've got to run, but I'll be back later. But talk to everyone here. Keep posting. You've already made the first step, you're on your way.

Yes. But I have a problem with relapseing, so I am now on the Suboxone. But there are alot of success stories from cold turkey, tapper and Suboxone. It's what works for you. We'll help you with what ever way you want to go. You can also go to Suboxone.com and read more about that and find a doctor in your area.
Do you think you want to try the cold turkey way?

PLEASE NOTE: I am not a doctor, simply a long-time Rx opiate junkie who has had many opportunities to develop a way to detox. This is a recipe for at-home self-detox from opiates based on my experience as well as that of many other addicts. It is not intended as professional medical advice. It is always wise to make sure none of the recipe ingredients or procedures conflict with medications you may be taking. Likewise, if you have any medical condition, disease, allergy or any other health issue, consult your doctor before using the recipe. Thanks, Thomas

THOMAS RECIPE

If you can't take time off to detox, I recommend you follow a taper regimen using your drug of choice or suitable alternate -- the slower the taper, the better.

For the Recipe, You'll need:

1. Valium (or another benzodiazepine such as Klonopin, Librium, Ativan or Xanax). Of these, Valium and Klonopin are best suited for tapering since they come in tablet form. Librium is also an excellent detox benzo, but comes in capsules, making it hard to taper the dose. Ativan or Xanax should only be used if you can't get one of the others.

2. Imodium (over the counter, any drug or grocery store).

3. L-Tyrosine (500 mg caps) from the health food store.

4. Strong wide-spectrum mineral supplement with at least 100% RDA of Zinc, Phosphorus, Copper, Magnesium and Potassium (you may not find the potassium in the same supplement).

5. Vitamin B6 caps.

6. Access to hot baths or a Jacuzzi (or hot showers if that's all that's available).

How to use the recipe:

Start the vitamin/mineral supplement right away (or the first day you can keep it down), preferably with food. Potassium early in the detox is important to help relieve RLS (Restless Leg Syndrome). Bananas are a good source of potassium if you can't find a supplement for it.

Begin your detox with regular doses of Valium (or alternate benzo). Start with a dose high enough to produce sleep. Before you use any benzo, make sure you're aware of how often it can be safely taken. Different benzos have different dosing schedules. Taper your Valium dosage down after each day. The goal is to get through day 4, after which the worst WD symptoms will subside. You shouldn't need the Valium after day 4 or 5.

During detox, hit the hot bath or Jacuzzi as often as you need to for muscle aches. Don't underestimate the effectiveness of hot soaks. Spend the entire time, if necessary, in a hot bath. This simple method will alleviate what is for many the worst opiate WD symptom.

Use the Imodium aggressively to stop the runs. Take as much as you need, as often as you need it. Don't take it, however, if you don't need it.

At the end of the fourth day, you should be waking up from the Valium and experiencing the beginnings of the opiate WD malaise. Upon rising (empty stomach), take the L-Tyrosine. Try 2000 mgs, and scale up or down, depending on how you feel. You can take up to 4,000 mgs. Take the L-Tyrosine with B6 to help absorption. Wait about one hour before eating breakfast. The L-Tyrosine will give you a surge of physical and mental energy that will help counteract the malaise. You may continue to take it each morning for as long as it helps. If you find it gives you the "coffee jitters," consider lowering the dosage or discontinuing it altogether. Occasionally, L-Tyrosine can cause the runs. Unlike the runs from opiate WD, however, this effect of L-Tyrosine is mild and normally does not return after the first hour. Lowering the dosage may help.

Continue to take the vitamin/mineral supplement with breakfast.

As soon as you can force yourself to, get some mild exercise such as walking, cycling, swimming, etc. This will be hard at first, but will make you feel considerably better.

If you want to go cold turkey, you're looking at 4-8 days of really bad flu. The average time is 5 days, with day 3 & 4 being the worst. Some of the many symtoms of withdrawels are: diarhea (really bad), RLS (restaless leg syndrom) but can be hands arms etc, shakeing, fever, hot and cold sweats, headache, bodyaches, emotional ups & downs, crying, depression, aniaxty and sleeplessness.
The Thomas receipe can help with the withdrawels, and I will post it here in a minute. You can also go to the doctor and tell him your situation and get a script for Clonodine, it will help alot and help with the sleep problem. You should probably figure taking 4-6 days off work. People have worked thru it, but it would be torture.

Ok, short response before shower.  lol
Tapper is lowering your pill intake until you get to nothing. This can be done fast with some discomfort or very slow with very little discomfort. But it's very hard unless you have someone strong doleing out the pills to you.
Suboxone is a drug used to get off the drugs. I'm on the Sub. You must be in withdrawels for 24 hours before starting it. Only certain doctors can prescribe it, so you'd have to find one in your area. Within an hour of taking the Sub. you will feel normal, like before you ever took pills. Most people swear by it.
I'll come back and tell you more in a few.
