Quitting before Christmas

Over the last year and half I've been diagnosed with three very painful diseases
I've been all ove the place with pain management but most recently taking between 40-60 mg of Percocet daily
I ran out early and although I have a refill script the pharmacies are saying its too early to fill
So it's not looking good
But I'm tired of spending so much time on medicine. I Hurt when I don't take it but then am obsessed with it when I do. I have to et a hyst in a few montH and I figured I would quit aftEr that surgery as I will need rx then, but am feeling like this is a sign- 4days before Xmas and I'm out. Why not quit now?
I have 26 (5mg) Vicodin but that's is. I do hae ambien and Xanax as well as muscle relaxers.
Can I do this?
Any suggestions on how quickly to taper the Vic or should I not even bother using  it?
Any advice, or plan to get through this all as easily as possible? I have a 3yr old and want him to have the best holiday possible so I need to feel good
Today is day 1 w only 2,000mg Vicodin (4pills)

Thought/advice/anything?

I do think the neurontin is helping a lot. At least I think it is lol!!
But I'm happy I did it and am glad that I'm sober for Christmas. It may hurt to stand up but at least I'm sober ;)

I was wondering about surgery, I'm surprised at how much I hurt and am now convinced that the hyst is the way to go because I never want to be in this position again.
What do you do in situations when you really need the pain meds? How many days are "safe" to take them for?
I've been on pain rx for a year now and Was usually taking 100mg of perc a day on average.

Hi and Congrats on 3 days!!   The first 72 to 100 hours is usually the worst for withdraws.  Everyone is different.  It depends on how long, what and how much you have been taking the opiates.   I've had some horrendous withdraws and some minor ones.   The neurontin must be helping to alleviate some of your symptoms...but also you were on them for about a year?   Let me tell you...each time you have to go through this it gets worse each time.   Your body does remember the addiction and it takes no time at all to rebuild up the tolerance to the pain meds.   Soon it takes even more and then coming off is a nightmare.   If I were you, I'd flush those Vics so they don't tempt you to take them.   You can't take what you don't have!    And when you have your surgery, make sure someone is helping you with your meds so you can take the least amount for the shortest amount of time.    Merry Christmas!   What a great gift to yourself...to be free of being a slave to those pills!!   :)

Today I feel like some of the noticeable wd has kicked in. Tired, dizzy and my stomach hurts. I also have a low fever. My eyes are also kind f red and irritated
Otherwise I feel good, I honestly thought I would be doing terrible so I'm happy with this
I've read that caffeine can make it worse? I feel like if may help but don't want to set anything off!

I'm doing really well surprisingly. I am tired and kind of out if it but otherwise am good! It's been 48 hour since I took anything (opiate) and I think tomorrow will be a great day
I do have neurontin that I've been taking but its been very helpful, the wd is almost non-existent. Not anywhere as bad as I thought
It's weird though, I am so over this pill seeking, counting and living my life around it. I'm done! (And I feel like its for real bc I do have Vicodin but NO desire to take it!)

Hi there and welcome! Sorry noone has answered you yet, the weekends are very slow here so just be patient.

So are you wanting to quit for good or are you just having to detox because your rx is too early yo get filled? The reason I ask is you had mentioned that you have Vicodin and if you should take those. If your just wanting to get by until your next refill then yes the vics will help.

I really hope that your plan is to get off the meds completely. Being a slave to these pills is no way of life. Alot of us got on meds because of legitimate pain and to be honest, once coming off of them the pain actually gets better. Most people will tell you that the pain meds didnt even really help anymore.

You sound like your at your wits end here. Talk to us and let us know what your overall plan is so we can help
