ugh... i thot detox was bad.

Here I sit, after 19 days clean... and I get sick... last week my son had caught some kind of viral thing, and now that he's getting better, I've caught it! WTH! Why does this happen? Is my immune system down from detox? I'd been thru DT'S before and withdrawal, and just about every other sickness that comes with addiction. AND I FEEL LIKE POO!!! When I was using, I don't remember ever catching even the sniffles, and it seems like all the time... what's the deal?

Hey Momma...

Congratulations on 19 days...I am so proud of you.  Your immune system has been through a lot and so have you! Take good loving care of yourself.  And remember-it takes more work to be healthy than not...But the results are so worth it.  I've had colds threaten over the past two months of sobriety but I double dosed Vitamin C, had lots of saunas, wrapped up warm and given myself a break....Give yourself a break....Also-hot lemon with ginger and honey....I swear by it.

Again-so proud of you...

There have been some recent studies that lack of vitamin d can play a big role in getting a cold and the flu. They say it may be more effective than vitamin c. You ought to google it and see what you think. Who knows though. Here's one link with some info......

Thanks everyone! I agree with you bmdad, maybe we were too numb... I don't know, but when I got to my drug store, the pharmacist knows what's going on. Maybe she can help me a lil more than guessing will... anyhow just to update, I'm staying strong and clean, for... not just me, but those who wish to see me succeed as well. Thanks to all of you who have and who are supporting me, it's greatly appreciated!

I've seen many posts about this in the past. I does seem that while we are on narcotic pain meds that we never get sick. Once we detox is seems we get the flu quite a bit over the next 6 months. Maybe when we were using we were just so numb we didn't realize we were sick?!!

I'm sure our immune system isn't very strong during and after detox. I've just always wondered why we would hardly get the flu while on the pills. I'm sure there is some sort of medical explanation out there somewhere.

Congrats on 19 days!

Our bodies spend alot of energy trying to repair itself so we do seem to get sick more often during these early days.  Your body will start working again.  Are you taking supplements?  It does suk!

It's normal. Some flu-thing is going around here where I live. My kids have all had it, I thought I was going to dodge it, but woke up this morning with a sore throat, runny nose, etc. Normal, everyday stuff - but we're clean.
