do you think its wrong to use low doses of methodone to w/d from percocets

i am w/d from percocets but i had some methodone so i have been using it the last 2 days in a small dose to help with some of the w/d

keep the amount of methadone as small as possible. you will have withdrawals from methadone.
ive been withdrawling the past 2 weeks from 10-20 mg per day (i took it for 3 years)

my friend got off methadone by reducing down to 1mg every other day. and was still sweaty and fatigued.

i was taking about 150 mg of percocet aday i stopped taking them c/t yesterday i am and have been using the methodone so the w/d wouldnt be so bad i took 20 mg last night so this morning i wouldnt hurt so bad and then this morning i started to get anxious so i took 10 mg

10mgs of methadone can be not much to some, but to much for others, their are many factors to consider when taking methadone, such as in the past few weeks how many percs were you taking? If you were tapering off the percs and you jumped onto 10mgs of methadone this could be way to much, so you may want to think about taking less? Or not taking any at all, this would be my approach if I were in your situation, as methadone even if taken for short periods at low doses is horrible for your body & brain!

My opinion is throw the methadone away.One milligram of methadone is equal to 3 milligrams of morphine,so ten milligrams of methadone isn't such a small dose at all.I know it's rough but YOU CAN DO THIS and you don't need that methadone,it's not worth the risk.Sadinmichigan has a journal entry pertaining to methadone written by a doctor who treats patients comming off of it,you should give it a look.Best of luck to you....Kim

first off , 10mg of methadone is pretty strong if you are lookign just for relief and not to get high.  try getting by on less.

no, i don't think it is prolonging your WDs, but that is MY opinion.  you just don't want to become addicted to the methadone.

what do you mean that no matter what ima have to go through the w/d at some point and ive only been taking 10 mg of methodone , but if im just stalling the thing i fear the most then i should stop taking the methodone and get on with it

Hi,

methadone is REALLY strong and is very slow to metabolize in the body.  i don't know how much you have or how much you've been taking, but keep in mind that you don't want a methadone addiction because the WDs lasts like 4 times longer!!  you may be all right if you are just taking very small amounts and for not that long of a time.  also, the methadone will mask your WDs even for a few days after you stop taking it, so keep that in mind as well.
