I can agree ever so more with EvolverU ...it will increase your tolerance for any pain med...! this medicine is used for short term and in some cases longer term of use by prescription ONLY..! it is a very powerful medicine with properties of a long half life also 20 x stronger than morphine.
like wise as mentioned to you in other replies if you are on such a low dose try to come off yourself it will take a few days to get over the worse.THE rest is all a down hill battle getting your sleep pattern back in line..if you need any more help please ask..!suboxone use is not the answer you are playing with a double edge sword..
Are you still just on the Norcos? How much are you taking? Are you doing the taper with your doc? You may need to slow the taper down a little bit. Are you able to be compliant with the taper, or do you find yourself ending up taking more than the taper dose?
How about support? Do you have a good support system? Family, friends that can help you through the process? That's really such a Godsend, the more support you have, the better.
If you can give us a little more info, we'll be able to better give you our thoughts.
Hang in there! It's great that you're here and you're trying!
Hi, yes, I was prescribed suboxone by a doctor, just not my primary. I am honestly having the roughest time tapering off norcos- I start getting sick 4-6 hours after taking my last dose. Not sure how this I'd done...
You are definitely not screwed. I know it feels that way. You are taking huge first step by admitting there is a problem
Now you just have to set up your plan to quit and for recovery. We are here to give you encouragement, support, and answer questions. Please stick around and keep posting. We want to see you get through this. It's not impossible, it just feels that way right now. You can do this!!
Can you share a little about what you've tried this far?
Sub is only a tool to help in recovery and detox. Eventually, you'll have to detox off those too, and quite honestly, the sub w/ds are historically more difficult, both in severity, and duration, as compared to a full agonist opiate like hydrocodone. I too wouldn't recommend using sub to get off hydros typically. How much are you taking and how long have you been takong them?
I'd say MOST people posting here are parents, or have very important responsibilities. Certainly, having w/ds makes that hard, but it's not impossible. I think that was why Evolver asked if you had ever planned out a deliberate taper or cold turkey. When planned out, one can put all the proper support in place to help with anything necessary.
There's no easy way for sure, but you're not screwed. If you want to get clean, you've come to the right place. Start reading the other threads, journals, health pages, etc. Have you gone to any NA/AA meetings? That would be a huge help as well.
Best of luck to you!
''Real" detox? Yes, I've tried. Tremors, vomiting, diarrhea. I'm at my wits end, I have a 4 year old to take care of and NO one to help me. I'm screwed.
Hey & Welcome. Thanks for posting.
First off, yo-yo'ing between Norcos & Subs will only push your Norco habit higher. Secondly, it is dangerous for several reasons: you can go into precipitated w/d's (which are horrendous) from taking Subs too soon after you take another opiate & it sounds as if you're buying someone else's Subs. Obviously, this leaves you open to possible legal consequences.
You came to the right place for support & we're glad you're here. Have you ever actually tried to do a real taper or c/t off the Norco?. I mean where you really planned ahead & did the research or went to an Addiction Specialist, Dr. or detox? If not, I would suggest that you try this before choosing the Subs or Methadone option. (Yes, they are similar in their receptor-binding properties [Subs being the stronger of the two], they're both powerful synthetics & both are very tough to come off [much tougher than Norco]) Just wanted you to have that info.
If you have tried multiple 'real' detoxes then perhaps the Subs option might be good idea. The important thing, as both posters above mentioned, is that you be properly dosed and maintained by a Dr. or a clinic. You should also have addiction counseling which is usually a requirement.
Coming off the Norcos may not be pleasant but is Absolutely doable. Many here at MH have done it. If you'd like to know more about that we'd be very happy to share our stories, advise & support with you. Let us know what you think. We're here.
Are you getting these from a doctor?
I personally don't have any experience with suboxone, but I do know that it should be used while in a program through a doctor's care. How much norco do you take a day? Subs are very strong and they have a much longer half life, which in turn means a longer withdrawl. They are good for people who have extremely high habits. If you are on a small to moderate dose of norco, you would be better off just biting the bullet and going through norco withdrawls. They usually only last a week or so.
