im on methadone 25mgs a day. i started taking pain killers for chronic pain six years ago too and got extremely addicted to them. i went off of them in july and the pain got worse and the worse the pain got the worse the cravings got. so my doctor put me on methadone at a low dose to see if it would help with the pain. the good thing is it doesn't make me high or euphoric like lortab did and it has totally stopped my cravings. i don't know how long i will stay on it, i'm taking it one day at a time. i have heard that it is hard to get off of but can be better if you wean your self off at a slow pace. there is a lot of stigma about methadone, and you will find a lot of ppl here are against it and i'm sure their points are valid, but every person is different and each has to do what is right with them. i know in my heart i'm not abusing it and am being extremely accountable and my conscience is clean, that's what it's all about for me. i hope it works for you and that your pain begins to become under control i know what it is like to live with chronic pain and ppl have no idea unless they have been there. just be honest with your self, your doctors and your support group, you'll know what is best for you. christina
Many on this site have successfully come off of Methadone. They all say it was tough but they did it -- most of them started using Opiates just as you did. Please keep posting and asking the questions - -some who are knowledgeable will be along to answer your questions. All the best.
