PLEASE HELP!!!!!

I have been taking Vicodin for about 21/2 years now but have only been abusing them for about 8months.  It all started the same as always, pain management and I was taking them like I was supposed to, then..... well you know the story.  I am currently taking 10-15 norco per day and I am discusted with this fact.  I have to kick this.  I am emloyed at a job a like very much and cannot take much time off of work.  I am thinking that this Friday I am going to quit cold turkey.  If there is any advise or info you can give to help me get through this process I would much appreciate it.

you can do it :) put your mind in the right place and it'll work for you. I too was taking 10-15 norcos a day for a majority of the 4 years I was on them. I also made it through work the last 3 days. I think it helped actually..the more exercise the better. even if you feel like you can't, make yourself do it!! stay strong :)

Have you talked to a doctor at all??  I told my doc all about my addiction and that I wanted to get off the percs and she put me on a 7day clonidine patch and it helped soooooo much.  I didn't have diarrhea, nausea, and my legs weren't that bad either.  Eat lots of bananas, get up and walk around if you can, and yes try to rest and get some sleep even if it seems impossible.  I also took Valium for anxiety.  My pharmacist actually recommended it or Ativan.  Just think of it as having a bad flu.  Would they let you go to work with the flu??  I had the doc tell my work that I couldn't come back to work for a week because I was sick and I am in the Coast Guard!  It is going to be very hard but you already have it in your head that YOU want to quit:)  You're probably going to want to lay in bed all weekend which is fine, but after day 4 you should try to get up and walk around. Hang in there and keep posting...pm me if you ever wanna talk...much love

Go to the store and get the following:

Bananas;
Hylands Restless Legs;
Mangnesium; (in any form)
Heating Pads
Espom Salt;

Take warm baths as often as you can, put the espom salt in there when you do. The magnesium and the bananas and the Hylands will help with the RLS, otherwise known as the "skin crawling" feeling. As will the heating pads. PLEASE try and walk and move about as much as you can. You will be tired and not want to, but please try to. Stock up onVitamins. Look up the thomas recipe and the amino acid protocol listed on this page.

Oh and immodium. If you can't stay home. If you have the ability to stay home for a couple days, I say do without the immodium and let nature run its course. You can do it. You are already past your first step, knowing you have a problem. I commen you on wanting to do it CT. Not many on here do. I did it once and it was hard, but I was so proud of myself in the end.

Post and read here as much as you can. Oh..and good luck...

Deduct 1or2 pills every 4-5 days and taper off them. If you quit c/t it is doubtful that you can work on Monday. Maybe but maybe not. You will feel like a super bad flu hit you from all sides.

Since I tapered it's hard for me to say if you can work. I do know of many people who worked all the way through their withrdrawls.

Again...if you will read the Health Pages...specifically the Thomas Recipe & Amino Acid Protocol that will help you get your plan as far as what stuff to you can take to help your symptoms from detoxing.

You will do great!

You can do this!  Glad you made the decision to quit.  Norco was also my DOC and I was taking about as much as you are now.  I fessed up to my doctor and he gave me a script for Klonopin (only a few as they can be addicting also), and Clonodine.  The Clonodine helped with the leg pain and sleep.  The Klonopin knocked me out also.  I couldn't eat anything for a couple of days, so I stocked up on Gatorade, protein drinks, and oh, Immodium after the first few days.  I say after the first few days because I kinda wanted to let it run it's course and get it all out the first few days.  As the above posters also mentioned, the health pages will give you info on the amino acids which helped tremendously as well.  Good luck to you, you CAN do this!

To be completely honest I am very scared and nervous in antisipation for what is to come.  I am at work now and must come to work tom. because the only other person that can do my job is on vacation.  I have made up my mind I am going to quit if it kills me.  If there is any advise you guys can give to help me prepare for this I would appreciate it.  Also is there any chance I can be back at work on Mon. ?  Should I try and stay as busy as possible, of should I lie in bed all weekend?  I am trying to get a solid plan together to help ease my mind so any input is greatly welcomed.  Thanks again and I look forward to getting to know you all.

Welcome to the forum! You can do this and it will be the best thing you've ever done. I do recommend checking out the health pages and amino acid protocol & thomas recipe... they are on the right side of the screen. I was on about 20-25 hyrdrocodones per day (highest using days) and I tapered off slowly b/c I have a toddler and worked PT at that time.

I say Read Read Read on here...post, post, post! You can do this!

Best of Luck!

Welcome to the forum!!  First of all, congrats on wanting to get clean:)  Check out the Thomas Recipe and the Amino Acid protocol on the bottom right hand side of the page.  You have made the first step in your recovery, knowing and understanding that you have a problem and for that you should be proud of yourself.  I am very new to this whole recovery thing but I am on day 10 cold turkey off of 8 10mgs percs a day for 7 months and doing good.

Keep posting here as much as you want and we will all help you get through this.  You can send me a message anytime if you want to talk...much love
