Liver hurting from hydrocodene 10/325

For about 8 months I have been useing the above after work. I would take 2 and a half and an hour later take another half. I would take another half about every half hour over the next 4 or 5 hours. anyway i stopped takeing the vic about a week ago and have only been a little nervous but for the last couple of dats my liver has been hurting a little under my ribcage. 1 month ago i went to the er cuz I was concerned about the acetamet in the vic. They did a scan of gall bladder and liver and all appeared normal. They gave me some clonezapam and sent me home, how ever my regular Doc gave me 90 more hydro cuz I said the back was killing me. Yes I used them and ran out a week ago. I never went over 4000 mg but I did take quite a bit over a 5 hour period for a while. Also being a smoker I have been thru 2 rounds of antibiotics for broncitis because I cough up a lot of yellow crap but the biotics have not helped. chest xray was clear. I just feel like **** and my liver is hurting some but not didtended. Urine is normal and no vomiting or bathroom problems. Any advice and should I have seen signs by now if I was in liver failure  and also could my coughing up this crap be related.......Please clue me in......Bruce    60 yo male

Your withdrawing right now so it's not surprising you're having pain. Diseases of the liver can be quite painful but given the tests performed a month ago were normal, it looks like you're in the clear.

With all the coughing that you're doing maybe you've strained an abdominal muscle...Just give it a few more days and then call your doctor for advice, okay?

Stay in touch...

Hi there, I agree with the above comment, that is too short of time and not really a huge amount of medication to hurt your liver to the point that you would actually feel it paining you. If you are really concerned you can always go to the health food store and get something for your liver, maybe something like milkthistle. There are a lot of things you can take to take care of your liver. I too have been on pain meds but for a lot longer than you and I too have felt an ache just under my ribcage, thinking that it was my liver but the bloodwork and physical exam are all normal, I would not worry too much. Taking supplements for your liver just may make you feel better and not worry.

How does one know his her "liver" is hurting?

You're making assumptions.

Like IBK said, you need to be honest with your doctor before this DOES become an issue.

Hi,

I doubt very much it is your liver that is hurting from that amount and from the amount of time you were on them. It is just not likely at all. I don't know what to tell you but you can pretty much rule out liver failure from the medication. I don't know if you drink but if you do you will want to get honest with your doctor about that. The combination of the two could cause problems. I wish you the best.
