introduction

Good evening every one, I am new here and wanted to introduce myself. i have struggled with addiction most of my life. Had months even years of being clean cut with months and even years of drug abuse (from shooting up heroin to alcohol). I was doing better last year but these last few months, i dived into an alcohol "orgy". two months ago, i had blood tests done as a "routine" type of deal... Only to find out that my liver is... pretty much... done with so much junk. Nothing too serious but just a big warning sign that if i keep on doing what i am doing, i am pretty much destroying my insides... a blessing in disguise as for the last two months, I only drank once (and no drugs either). Yet, I know better than screaming "victory." and that's why i am here... Thank you and to all, best wishes!

- Nikita

Hello gnarly_1, thank you for your post. I have tried a few programs and what ended up working for me was to see a personal therapist and to develop a personal program. I never found the answser in AA or NA but as you and others did mention: Whatever works... I appreciate that members such as yourself respect and remain open minded to others approach to recovery. very cool and unfortunately not always the case in other forums and programs. Thanks to all and hoping this finds you well!

HI Nikita welcome to the forum ....your in good company many of us have been where your at
I for one was a binger never did anything 1/2 way im suprize I dont have liver damage
it sounds like you know how to get clean ....but its staying that way is the problem most of us have found that some form of aftercare seams to be the ticket off the merry go round
both N/A and A/A are free programs and the 12 steps work if your work them if that not a good fit for you you can try an addiction therapist or a substance abuse conslor but you got to get down to the root of why you use...for the addict it is the very way we think that needs to change in order to get well...please try recovery it sure beats ''white knuckling sobriety''
good luck and Gos bless.....Gnarly

Good Morning Katrina, thank you so much for the warm welcome. And back at you with congratulations on your 40... 41? Days of your new life. Re my liver, i am still waiting on tests and will prob have a biopsy done soon. My platelets count was down to 39 (norm is 150-400). I started acupuncture and chinese herbs and last BC they were up to 90... Would love not to have to go through interferon if at all possible. Anyway, hoping this finds you well. Have a great week-end,

Nikita, so glad you're here and are seeking help! My name is Sara, and I'm an addict, clean 4 years, 2 months, 28 days. I found complete recovery through all areas of my addiction (drugs, alcohol, eating disorder, etc). through Narcotics Anonymous and the 12 steps, but the each their own. I was like you, I did the whole deal. I'd go on binges with certain drugs, or alcohol, and did em all. Am I'm glad you realize one drink is too many. That's what we say in recovery, one is too many, and a thousdan is never enough. I know I simply cannot use anything, just for today, as it will lead me back on that path of active addiction, which to me, is misery. I've had periods as well which I thought I could control everything and my drug/alcohol use was fine. But it always happened, that awlfull misery always came back. Today I can honestly say I am happy. I love my life and wouldn't change anything about it. I gained a life I thought I could never have. I'm living my dreams. I trully wish the best for you and am happy you found this website. My best suggestion is take what works for you, and leave the rest, and of course, always keep searching until you find something that works. And just a hint, what you're looking for may be closer than you think :)

Hey Nikita, and welcome to the forum. I am glad you took your life back! Addiction is a life long disease and filled with relapse for many. I am new to being clean. Just hit my 40 days yesterday. I am so sorry to hear about your liver, but your right, what an eye opener. I hope your health doesn't suffer much and that the damage isn't permanent? I am glad you found this forum. It is full of people who care and there is great advice and support to be found here as well. Stick around and keep posting. It's always nice to know you are not alone and that there are many, many people just like us out there!
