kicking methadone

I have been taking methadone for the last 8 months to stay off of pills, but it doesn't seem to matter how much I'm on I still never feel 'well', and I profously sweat, regardless of the dose I'm on. I was on 200mg dropped to 150 & am back up to 175, no change. Quite Frankly I don't much see the point of taking it anymore if I'm going to feel crappy anyway. SO I'm wondering if anyone knows about how long it would take to feel somewhat normal again if I quit taking it only with clonidine to help.

HI Maxine ...sounds to me like your getting a lot of the side effects of being on a high dose of methadone ....if you want to get off it you can....I came off 150ml a little over 7 mo ago but it takes a wile to do ...you cant just quit at such a high dose you have to taper down or the withdrawals will be unbearable it took me 8 1/2mo to taper down to nothing
and the withdrawals will tapering were doable they where uncomfortable if you need help with a taper plan I got a good one from a neo/natal nurse that brings babys off heroin methadone oxy ext...we no longer post them in the open forum but I can send it to you via the messenger it will be in your e/mail...getting off methadone was one of the best decisions of my life....living on it su##s the life out of you at the higher doses and is no way to live...the recovery from the detox can be a bit much its not like your pill detox it takes a wile to start to feel well again..wile you taper just get comfortable with the saying...."you just got to be ok without being ok for a wile" you go in and out of withdrawals as you taper down but if you go low enough like down to 5ml the final withdrawal is uncomfortable but very doable mine lasted 7 days with some lingering symptoms into 2 weeks then your thew with the physical part...the mental part is a whole nother story it can be a wile till you start to get your energy back and you will need to plug into some sort of aftercare to deal with it...N/A or A/A is good as is a substance abuse conslor but its going to be a wile b/4 your back to normal you will need all the support you can get....keep coming here and posting YOU CAN DO THIS its just going to take some time good luck and God bless......Gnarly

gnarly is someone on this forum who has a lot of experience with methadone and has been a great help. I'll send him a message and he'll be able to help you. One thing I do know is that you will probably want to taper down much further to minimize the wds which from what I've read can be really nasty coming off of methadone. Like the poster above me said it can and has been done and this is a great place to get the support you'll need to do this. Welcome and while your waiting check out the Thomas Recipe and Amino Acid Protocol in the health pages, they'll be helpful when you are ready to detox.
