little to no withdrawal is it possible

My mom has been on Percocet and Oxyneo and Oxycontin for 20 years, taking them everyday. 6 Percocet and 40 mg Oxy three times a day. Some times she would take a little less depending on the pain but never has stopped Her doctor is trying her on some different medication in which she had to be off Percocet and the Oxy for 48 hours. She said she hasn't had anything since Monday. I would of thought she would of been feeling terrible, really bad withdrawal. She didn't do a taper just cold turkey. I asked her if she has been able to sleep as most people can't. She said she has but is taking clonazepam to help with that. Is this possible???

Hi your mum has been asked to cease her pain meds for 48hrs prior to being administered the naltrexone because if she doesn't she will experience precipitated withdrawls which are much much worse then typical opiate withdrawls.

I asked her if she took any meds as I find it hard to believe she hasn't if the w/d is so mild. I will talk to her again today to see how she is doing. She said she wasn't but I wonder. She said it took everything not to but with full access to them I don't know. Thanks

Are you sure she isn't sneaking her meds? I hate to say that but as an addict that is probably what I would do. I can't believe she isn't in withdrawal and pain. Also the reason I ask if she went off all meds..our pain becomes intense during withdrawal and it causes so many of us to go back on the pills. BUT if she went off and waited a few weeks the pain would subside and she could honestly assess it. It's tough but it is the best way to go. she may not need meds at all. something OTC may help. It is worth a shot if she is willing to try. Hang in there honey. I know this is hard on you so keep talking with us. We will help you through this.

LOL...yes you are right it is Naltrexone...my mom spelt it wrong. She is starting on a low dose. She doesn't feel like jumping around but she never does. Well I hope this works. Thanks!

I sent her the article and will take a read as well

It is rather amazing at those doses of those meds that she isn't feeling any w/drawals or discomfort!
I don't think you mean Natroxin as it is a male enhancement drug...LOL

Knowing she has fibromyalgia...her dr is probably prescribing LDN which is "Low Dose Naltrexone".  While it is an opiate antagonist and blocks the effects of opiates at doses of 50 mg to 100 mg....this new low dose (usually 5 mg) LDN is being prescribed off label now with some positive results for those with fibromyalgia.  You have to go off all opiates FIRST and then they administer at a low dose.  Here's an article that you may benefit from reading:

http://chronicfatigue.about.com/od/treatingfmscfs/p/LDN.htm

It's really great that she is not in major withdrawals....???as to why...maybe her body chemistry metabolizes slowly....whatever it is....maybe this new LDN will be a blessing for her and she can also reduce the amount of opiates she is on, too.  Hope that helps~

She has never tried to come off as after going a few hours the pain has been so bad and she feels really sick which makes me wonder. The new meds is suppose to help with Fibromyalga, I think it is called Natroxin. I just spoke to her and she sounds great. I haven't heard anyone that can be on such high doses for so long and not feel like dying. Once she is on this new meds her doctor said she can go back on all the pain meds but had to be off for the first 48 hours. Sounds really odd to me

Hi & Welcome, Some people are just lucky. I surely was never one of them. What medication are they switching her to? Has she tried before to go off of them and assess her pain level?
