long term methadone addiction & now no lobido

Hi   I am a 49 yr old male, ive been very fit all my life, been on methadone for nearly 18 yrs constantly now, over the last 7-8 yrs I noticed I had no lobido,on studying on how to increase your testosterone levels avidly,i don't take any meds to help boost my testosterone levels,i tapered down to 20mg a day but started using again mainly down to my lack of lobido ,so im back up to 70mg daily, but I hope I have found the culprit for my very low lobido, its virtually non existent & it broke up my 5yr relationship with my ex girlfriend,im not on any other medication,i had my testosterone levels checked & they are good for a 49yr old male,so I hope if I have the strength to taper down to zero methadone properly, which will take me atleast a year my lobido will come back eventually or have I done to much damage to my endrocine system with opiate abuse for it not to return permanently, could anyone give me factual information on long term methadone addiction & the time scales when totally abstinent of all drugs ,if it will ever return,i am praying I can get it back as this will give me the drive to come of my addiction completely?    MANY THANX FOR THIS SERVICE JOHN

Just like methadone detox came in waves, SOS has my libido. I started thinking of my stubborn insanity of using like another Puberty. I felt confused, then hyper horny with no control over climax, then it plateaued. That's when I knew I better keep it funky fresh and never let the flame go out. So my short answer, yes, all of my feelings came back, even the desire and enjoyment of sex. An opiate rush has a lot of the same chemical reactions in the brain, but nothing satisfies like the real thing.

Anyway, after 18 years, I would taper reallllll slowwwww. Being in a hurry to detox methadone is the worst thing one can do. Keep yourself moving, eat real clean and consume extra amino acids and minerals, in food or supplements.  Opiates dull the natural highs I Of life, it sounds like you are sick of that. You won't regret it, just keep moving forward.

Hi, John, yes, opiates kill our libidos. I was on norco for years and wondered my I didn't care about having a boyfriend. And wouldn't you know as soon as I stopped, back it came. 18 years is a loooong time to be on that and lack of sex drive is one of the many common symptoms of opiate abuse. I'm sure methadone is the same. I'm no dr but there's no reason it wouldn't come back when you are clean.

Let us know how/when you wanna start tapering and we can support you:)
