methadone for chronic pain

hi, my husband is on 60mg of methadone (pill form) a day for chronic back pain.  He's been on this regimen for 4 years now.  If he runs out of his pills before he gets the new script how long will the last dose of methadone stay in his system and how quickly will the "dt's" start?  I am asking because the doc had to resched his appt and he might run short and want to be prepared.  Thanks

he shouldn't get DT's from methadone withdrawals. It more like hot and cold and some aches and stomach pains. He is a pain pt. and not a typical drug addict who takes methadone right? all the best

hi and welcome to the forum...as for a timeline methadone has a 36hr 1/2 life
most people can skip a day dosing and not notice it..I was also prescribed for pain
you should call the dr and make him aware of you med shortage they can probably
let you come in and get a script or mail you one to get you by...the dr knows he needs
the meds to avoid withdrawals so it shouldn't be a problem good luck and god bless
