Weening off Xanax

So I was prescribed .5 x3 a day, but never have taken that much. I have been on it for roughly 1 1/2 years, taking as needed, but at least .5 a day.... Its a small dose but over a period of time, i think my body still notices when you dont have one for a while....

I started gettin dizzy all the time, out of it, fatigued, and i just came off percocets and lyrica (off them for almost 40 days) so i thought they just needed to get out of my system completely...well they have but my dizziness is still there, badly. Ive been down to taking .25 x2 a day for about 2 weeks, and now im stuck. I went to a new doctor today and he said "since your on that low of a dose, you can just stop taking them".....uh, with all the stories ive read on here, i dont know if i trust that..

What would you guys think? Should I cold turkey it, or continue the ween to .25 once a day for a week? Im so tired of feeling like this and just want to feel normal again.

Thanks

You are on a pretty low dose..but i would continue to wean as you suggested. I am not a dr. but I do know you can have seizures going c/t. I was taking 2-3 mg a day for a year and quit cold turkey. Did not have this forum at the time and had no idea about the possibilty of seizures. I made it though it though..but im still trying to kick the lortabs.

Yes I was very dizzy. However, I was trying to quit the xanax and lortab c/t at the same time so Im not really sure between the difference from the xanax or lortab w/d....but I have an some idea.. I do know my nerves were shot. I would jump at every little noise and it literally felt like my brain was frying!!!!  I could not drive bcuz everything was blurry and foggy. My anxiety was insane...no sleep at all. when I would dose off for 20 min or so I would wake up w my heart pounding out of my chest. I think those were most of my w/d symptoms from the xanax...they went away after about a week. then I started to get physically ill from the lortab w/d. I  started taking the lortabs again bcuz I could not handle the w/d symptoms anymore. 6 wks is a really long time for your symptom. I would suggest getting a second opinion with anothr dr.

Yea ive been to the ER twice in the last 6 weeks, and more than 10 doc visits, nothing unusual found....it must be the xanax... I had a CT scan back in Nov and they said that would have showed anything unusual....
