Hi all.  I've beenl urking but this is my first post.
I think I have dangerously crossed over into the full blown addict territory.  I've probably been there for a long time but was afraid to admit it.
My story much like everyone else's starts with me taking a few 7.5 vicodins due to a car accident and herniated discs.  I began to misuse thm.  This went on for over a yaer before I realized that I HAD to have them or I would get sick.  Up until that point if I had them, I would most deinitely take them but I would't exactly go throuigh w/d either.
So from there\e I found a new dr willing to write me a script for 5 mg percs and from there 10 mg percs.  At one point and for  a total of 4-7 months I would take up to 30 possibly even 40 10 mg percs a day - so that's say 300 mg per day.
I've maaged to wean down to a few 7.5 vics a day and planned on starting Suboxone for a very quick detox but decided to put it off for a few days to enjoy my weekend with a few more highs.  I know, retarded.
I couldn't get the 7.5's.  I could only get 40mg oxycontins.  I had never done those before.  I did a few, and have been doing about 4-5 a day for 3 days now with a full bottle of Suboxone next to me.
I do plan on staying sober with NA and counseling after I finish the Sub but I'm concerned as of right now and I have a few questions that hopefully someone can answer.
1.  I have swelling in my feet an akles.  i noticed it a little yesterday but today it's rather bad and a bit painful.  could this be a reaction? or could it be a sign of liver damage?
2.  how long do you need to wait after coming off extended release oxycontins to start sub? i know with the others it's at least 12-15 hours.
Thank you!
I just wanted to say that I am really scared about who I've become in the last 3 days on the oxy's.
I  find myself drifting off to sleep and losing time even when i'm standing up.  i haven't lied down to go to bed in 3 nights.  maybe i've gotten 3 hours total  i have smoked so many cigarettes i'm disgusted.  i've also dropped so many i need a new carpet now from the burns.
i guess it's the closest thing to heroin out there and i'm horrfied i've ever let it go this far.

Good..so glad to hear that. So, I guessing that the doctor gave it to you when you were on Vic's and that is why you don't have instructions.

I did the Sub off a short acting med and I waited 15 hours. I really don;t have the answer for you, but be careful. Did you go to the website? they may have the answer for you. Also, there is another good site naabt.org. I think you may find the answer there if no one else here knows.

Sunday is always a slow day here so be patient and check back.

Good luck..I hope it works out.

Hello and Welcome!

No..you do not have to take Subutex first.....I don't know where that came from.

I am a little concerned about where you got the Suboxone and why you aren't doing it under a doctor's care. This is a great site for one addict helping another, but asking a question like that is almost like giving out medical advise, and that gets a little scary. How are you going to know what dose to take? There are a lot of questions there. If you don;t plan on seeing a doctor, then please go to Suboxone.com and read, read, read. Make sure you understand what you are doing. I did a short detox with it and it helped me, but I was under a doctor's care with it, so I had a place to go should I have a reaction.

I don't know about the swelling of the feet hun. My ankles swell a lot but it is because I have heart disease. I will say this...if it keeps up, please have it looked at.

You are taking a big step in the right direction. I wish you a lot of luck. NA..very good choice..counseling..yes, yes, yes. And stay here. There are a lot of good, kind people here.

Suboxone is still an opiate. It just works differently and mimics the effects some how. You can go to suboxone dot com for a full explanation. I too started with pain killers for herniated discs, surgery, etc. I never took an extra one, never got high and never enjoyed them. I stopped when I was told to and after only 5 week of being on them, went into full withdrawal. I've been dealing with the withdrawal for more than a year now. Which means, I have been SICK for more than a year. I started suboxone about
4 months ago. While it made the withdrawal from the hydrocodone less severe, it didn't erase it. I tapered off the suboxone from only 1mg per day, gradually down to 0.125mg per day. It's been 21 days since my last 1/4 of a pill and I am STILL SICK! The doctor is amazed and insisted I was using something else, which I am not. I can't even drink a beer without getting sick. That's why I am looking for a rehab facility. They told me I might have to go back on the suboxone, stay in rehab for 28 days and stay on the suboxone for another year. It's a frigging nightmare. Take my advice -- you are playing with fire. Don't dig yourself into a deeper hole you may never get out of.

You have to be in withdrawal to start suboxone and I think you have to start with subutex first. Don't think suboxone is a cure. It ISN'T! I went to tour a rehab facility today to handle withdrawal from suboxone, which I took to handle withdrawal from hydrocodone. I don't know anything about your symptoms but I can guarantee that you can't do this alone. Don't take the suboxone without a doctor's help. If you do, you are just trading one addiction for another!
