the problem is sub is an opioid too. a replacement opioid, period. so your body is still hooked on opioids. the longer you are on it,the harder it will be to shake it.

I think salsinator summed it up very well, from personal experience and its along the lines of what I have experienced from methadone WD's. and when you go through REPLACEMENT OPIOID WD's.............hard to be a fan of them.  not to mention its very expensive from what I have heard and why would you want to take opioids and continue to be addicted to an OPIOID!( you will be addicted to the sub as you were the other opiates or opioids you were on)

now certainly some people that have had really bad times going ct, or are on serious high dose addictions, sub would be the way to go. the lesser of two evils, which then is still there.........

I am in Day 9 Suboxone therapy.  After much research and discussion, I decided that this was the best route for me.  I had been taking 9 to 11 Tramadols a day for 1 1/2 years and as I already knew I would face terrible cravings (plus, my gastric system is in poor shape--many problems--and it would have been too agonizing to go c/t off Tramadol), I and my doctor felt that Suboxone would give me the time to get my head on straight while detoxing from Trams, get solidly into going to Narc-Anon, plan my life-long fight against recreationally taking drugs, etc..  I just can't imagine that people who followed their MD's directions would have a bad w/d from the Suboxone!  After reading many more pluses than minuses, esp. for someone who has unbearable cravings like I do, I would recommend it, but it is so important to have a good, long talk with your substance abuse MD regarding your own personal medical history, your goals and fears and hopes.  From everything I've read, a short course/slow taper seems to be best, but again, it's up to YOU AND YOUR DOCTOR and your confidence that you can take Suboxone exactly the way your MD prescribes.  ALSO, make sure you can immerse yourself in counselling, a lot of it, and start N.A. meetings to examine your mind and soul and understand your behaviors as fully as you can.  This is such a tough decision and I cried and prayed about it for a long time, but right now, I am doing well with no cravings and am attending another N.A. meeting this evening.  My prayers for your success, whichever method you choose!

I  was on suboxone for over 3 years and as Kevin Bacon indicated, I could not taper and detox without going through a medical detox.  I have been on both roller coasters and have experienced W/D from vicodin and suboxone.  The w/d from the suboxone is 100 times worse than the vocodin.  A typical w/d from a regular opiate will last 5-7 days with 3-4 days being the worst.  Suboxone withdrawal just keeps on going, after 4 days it kept getting worse and not better.  Personally, I would not recommend Suboxone to anyone unless they were planning on staying on it for good.  It worked very well for me, but I just did not want to be dependant on pills the rest of my life - and God forbid if you ever run out.  If you want to get clean, research all your options before jumping in with the suboxone.  Best of luck.

I went the suboxone route, 21 days only!  I was put on 8mg the first day and 16mg the second day.  Went into a panic attack, the drug was way to strong for me.  Cut back to 8mg for a week then 4mgs then 2mgs then quit.  The w/d were worse for me coming off the subs than it would have been going cold turkey.  This could have been because I was not a heavy user, I just chased the dragon, but I did need help, no doubt.  Coming off sub has been a long haul, I have to deal with getting my brain chemicals straight with depression and panic disorders.  I would get more info and make a decesion whats best for you.  I just said 21 days was enough of feeling way out there!

From what I've researched (you should, too), sub users have managed short-term use, and a medically-assisted detox is in the offing somewhere down the line ... perhaps it's the less of two reluctant choices.

If you can't face a med detox now, perhaps you'll have to give it a short-term go. All avenues must be explored, though ... punch "Suboxone" into the search engine here. It might make the decision easier.

Wish I could w/d at home, but two recent failures showed me that I can't do this alone. And remember to give yourself 24hrs of no use, or you'll go into horrible w/d's on the spot.

Good luck, and please get back to us.

I wish I knew what to tell you,  I have never used sub.  others will come who have and tell  you their experiences with it.   I understand that sub is hard to come off of too.  And being a chronic pain person, perhaps it is best to go that route with the sub.
Best wishes to you on your appointments.
