Honey...You NEED a new DR. I understand your in pain..Do you have a control on taking your meds as prescribed to you? Please refuse methadone..Unless your Dr (which I doubt) has ever been addicted to methadone or pills..He's an idiot. Please find something else..Maybe even vicoprofen which has the anti inflamatory ibuprofen in it instead of tylenol..I know your scared and we just don't want to see that happen to you..You did right by asking here..I honestly only talked to a few people in the 1 yr of going to a methadone clinic everyday but sunday..that took it for pain..and they had terminal cancer..You have to speak up to these dr's...
like the others said.......dont do it! ive heard sooooooo many methadone horror stories here its not even funny. To me, switching from Vicodin to Methadone would be like chopping both your arms off instead of just a pinkie finger... (i know, sick analogy, sorry about that lol) I would get a different doctor. If you need pain meds regularly and are not abusing them, see if you could be put on one of the long acting drugs like MS Contin or Opana ER, something like that. good luck to you.
I am sorry if I am being harsh, but there are heroin addicts that have said that it was easier to stop the heroin than methadone, and they totally regret it. I know every case is different, but in my opinion, there are other avenues for RA pain. My 15 yr. old was diagnosed on her 10th birthday with JRA, and there are many other options for you. She is almost 15, and currently is on the Competitive Cheer Squad, student council, Track, choir, and many other activities. PLEASE discuss other options with your Dr. or get a new one.
Then tell him you refuse to take methadone and find something else, anything else. Or get a new Dr....for real, you do not want to go that route.
I have to stop the vicodin doc will not refill it only have 5 pills left.
You are better off taking the Vicodin as prescribed or finding something else that will work better. Even staying on Vic's is better than taking the methadone.
I second that motion. I haven't taken meth either but I think w/d from opiates can be dangerous if you have taken for years and are throwing down 20 a day or more. Then again everyone has different chemistry so listen to what the people here and your doctor say. Good luck!
The doc said the methadone will help the pain better then the vicodin and I will have to be on pain meds all my life for the RA . But now I am just sure HELP!!
seriously..please don't take the methadone..It is a wicked drug, very addicting and VERY hard to get off of...I think if you did it..you would really wish you never did.
You are very welcome Louise!! LOL....I just hate it when Dr.'s do that ****, that is just crazy!! You know it first hand....don't be afraid to say it chick!!
I agree with confused456. I have never taken Methadone but from what I have learned about it you really don't want to mess with that. How long have you been on the vic? I have been taking 30 pills a day of perc and would never touch the methadone. Also, everyone is different, you may want to just taper off the vic and then you really wont have to worry about wd's or going on something else.
Good luck to you and we are all here to help!
thankyou confused..AMEN to that..
Taking methadone for such a little amount of Vicodin is totally wrong, and you need a new Dr. Methadone is very dangerous, go read the journals in wait2long's profile, PLEASE. Best of luck to you. Please don't take the methadone.
I'm not familiar w/ meth..so I'll say good luck and let the "meth pros" respond!!! LOL
Just wanted to say welcome to the forum!!
First of all..are you trying to get off the meds or trying to control pain? Methadone is not a drug you want to mess with if you don't have to. How long have you been on the pain meds..and does you Dr. want to prescribe methadone to help prevent withdrawals? You are going to be uncomfortable for about a week..stopping the vicodin. But there are things you can do to make it through..keep posting..and welcome.
