opiate detox

I have never used this site before today...but my current situation drove me to do something. I have been using opiates mostly oxycontin, but really anything I can get my hands on. Its been about 9 months of daily use, but I've had enough and decided to quit cold Turkey. Its harder than I thought. How long will this last and is there any way to relive some of these symptoms. Please help.

Ya sweetie you are in the thick of it now. I know exactly how you are feeling too. They gave you some great advice above on how to handle the symptoms but also pay attention to the mental part as well. Your body/brain is going to be screaming for those pills. Cut off ALL contacts. Trust me,,knowing that you "might" be able to get something will turn into you getting something. Unfortunately this is the part of this addiction that is the hardest to deal with-getting sober again. Its so worth feeling like sh*t for a week to have yourself back again. I promise. As another amazing member posts all the time (littlebits) keep telling yourself you have the flu. You've had the flu in the past right? You got thru it. You will get thru this. Hang in there ((hugs))~Bkitty

Sonrissa is correct - lots of water. Gatorade helped me. And avoid coffee in the evenings. I drank coffee in the morning but it did little - the fatigue you feel is a part of the detox. If you can't eat try Ensure. You need to get some kind of nourishment as soon as you can. Hot baths are good too. There are things to help, but bottom line - you have to go through detox. We all did; it may seem overwhelming now but IT IS NOT. My worry is you knowing that you can get pills. The craving will get worse.
Be strong. Keep posting.

Stick to water! You sound like you are in the thick of it now! The worst for me was days 3-5, then it got much better! Just hang on and again read the Thomas Recipe! There are things to help you feel better! You can make it and are almost through the worst of it! If you can stay home tomorrow it would be good! Take care and post if you have any questions or need support!

Well my last pills were taken Tuesday around 8pm or so....it was 8 Vicodin. Over the past 6 months I was taking around 40mg of oxys a day or between 5 or ten Vicodin. Or 5 or 6 percs. I actually already cut off my strong contacts...I know I can still get them though. Thats the hardest part. Dealers don't really care about well being only money. But hopefully I can resist the urge all together. I knew I was doing something that would come with consequence but didn't know how bad it would be. I just want all this to be over I want my old self back :(

How much were you using daily? That will have a lot to do with the severity of your detox. Having said that, most get through the bad physical part of withdrawal in 3 or 4 days. If you can call in sick for work tomorrow, you should do it. By Monday things should be at least manageable.
If you really want to do this, then be sure that you cut all sources. You've already thought about using - which is normal - and that temptation will only get stronger over the next few days. I've upset a few people by saying this early in their process, but if you have easy access to pills you probably won't succeed. Be strong. Don't listen to the voices, and keep posting.
