Duration of Withdrawals...

Any idea how long I will be miserable? I quit taking 10/325 Hydrocodone Thursday afternoon at 3PM. Friday wasn't too bad, Saturday was much harder. Trying to keep my dirty little secret from wife and kids. I peeled of wet T-shirts last night as I am sweating a lot at night while sleeping. I've also got restless legs. Been using (prescribed) meds for 4 years. Decided I didn't want to pop pills all day anymore. Been taking 6-8 each 10mg's a day. They made me feel really good and made my problems not so big. I want my life back! I just started taking WELBUTRIN to help me thru the let down. So far, so good. The taper down approach has helped me some as I have been planing for this a few weeks. I know from the past times in between prescriptions how tough the WD's can be. Anyone with experience to share with me would be greatly appreciated. Oh yeah, one more thing. I am too scared to toss the 120 Hydro's I have left. They're sort of a security for me if things get too tough. Is this a mistake? I truly am done using these things, but I feel I need the security. Thoughts anyone on Day 3?
Thanks for caring.

You are about to come out of the worst part of the w/d.  Your days should get better and better esp. after day 6 so you about got it whipped.  Just stay busy, and do something else when the urges come.  You will be okay now?

Will do (immodium). Thanks Ella. Good advice on the mental temptation. I'll flush them soon. Thanks!

Take some immodium with you just in case and take at first sign.  I read somewhere that Immodium has something in it that helps the stomach "receptors" so to speak, but it helps with the w/d.  So,unless it backs you up, then take one anyway tomorrow.  Just my thoughts tho.  Also aleve, ibuprohen, or whatever pain meds you have (otc)  I do warn you that you need to make sure your  lortabs are inaccesable to you for about a month or two cause, when the "physical" w/d is over the MENTAL will come sooner or later and be a hugh temptation for you.  Been there myself.

Thanks for your input. It's hard to push yourself when you have no energy, but I agree, it keeps your mind busy. Wish I could just go to sleep for 10 days or so and wake up with no memory of my addiction. But, I know that's ridiculous. I am paying the price for abusing and that's ok. I don't want to EVER go thru this bs again. Thanks for the kind words of encouragement.

Had you cut your consumption going into ct? I was hoping cutting down to 3 a day would make it easier. So far, (Day 3), I am doing fine. I'll be glad when I don't even think about taking these things. The past 4 years, I've reached into my pocket and popped one prior to anything challenging me (Sales Presentaton, Bowling, Sales Call, whatever!). Good advise on flushing the last 120 V's on day five. They are a security blanket for me now, but I get it. Why tempt yourself needlessly. I appreciate your response.

Day 4 for me was my hardest (sorry) Day 5 was great. As for holding the pills not a good thing to do. When you start to feel better the mind game kicks in. Day 5 toss em!
You have come sooo far. You are almost at the end of w/d's
Then the hard part begins staying clean. Worried is right move.. it will also help with the restless legs.

Congrads on making it this far! You doing great!!!

Thx for the info! Excercise is a great idea. I have a treadmill (a little dusty), and I think I'll go do 20 minutes right now! Although I thought my addiction was enormous, I've read many posts that were worse. I hope my brain can produce those good feelings (dopamines) right away. That's what I will miss most from the hydro's. Glad to hear day 4 might not be that bad. Thank you.
All the Best!

I was at ur dose..more like 80-100 mgs a day for 4 yrs..I took a long wekend off work and went back to work day 5..the roughest part for during physical detox was the runs...i had no problem sleeping and slept like 12 hours a day..too much!  I did try and exercise each day altho day 1 i only made it 20 minutes on the treadmill...for me, day 1 was the worst day and by day 4 i felt pretty good..i followed the thomas recipe..altho i took valerian root for anxiety and sleep/also ambien...i had like 2 valium and did take a small piece the first few days but my anxiety was not really a problem...exercise helped me more than anything and tyrosine helped me get my nrg back....about 2 weeks after detox i had a humongous energy loss/which almost did me in..i was calling into work and melting into the couch..my doctor gave me an rx for provigil and that helped me keep my job...and make it thru the lack of motivation i was feeling..this lasted for a few months...but right now, uneed to take it one day at a time..going to meetings almost daily during that time really helped me as well..good luck and keep posting

I am thinking Monday (Day 4) won't be as bad as it is for most. I am basing this on the fact that I started tapering my consumption Sunday, a week ago. I am drinking lots of coffee in the am, and energy drinks during the day. I pray I won't have severe wd's tomorrow (D4), because I have obligations. I appreciate your kind words and wisdom. Know that when you are ready, God will help you if you ask. Not trying to get spiritual on you, but some things really need His help. Like the cravings I get every ten minutes :-).
Thanks again for your support LadyDi, and I wish you the best!

Happy Sunday to you to!!  Please do not htink that tomorrow is going to be bad for you based on what I said, I have not been there so please keep a positive attitude!  you are doing great by not using and if having the pills gives you that safety net feel, that is fine.  Take each day as it comes, any chance of calling in sick tomorrow if you do feel bad? Good Luck!

Day 4 is tomorrow... a work day. I'll try and keep busy all day. I can't wait to get to D6, 7,8, etc. It's the hardest thing I've ever done. Thanks for the post and good luck to you! Realizing we've got a problem is 1/2 the equation. Keep tapering and stay on your depression meds. The mental part is huge too! I've trasured these yellow pills so long and I suppose that's why I haven't tossed them. I will soon. Still too nervous to do it now.
Happy Sunday!

I can relate!  I am currently tapering off of 6-8 10/500mg hydro's and it is hard.  I am currently taking 4 per day for thenext 4 days and then 3 pill for 4 days, 2 etc.  I have to say i feel the w/d's between doses when i try to last longer than 4 hrs.  I am sure it is not what you are feeling but from what i have read on the posts from others you are at the turning point.  I give you so much credit for quitting ct, I could not do it.  My fear was not the physical w/d but the mental.  I take cymbalta 60mg and 5mg of abilify for depression so I am hoping by tapering the depression aspect will not be so tough.  Again, from what I have read the 4th day of w/d's is the hardest and each day after it gets easier.  I am not sure if it is a great idea to have your extra pills around because I do know how hard the cravings are!!!  I wish you luck, post often I am here alot and always willing to talk!!!  Ladydi4185
