Hi Sonia.I was on methadone for almost 2 years.I went c/t off of 25 mgs.Not going to sugar coat it,it was a real rough road. The first 2 weeks were the worst physically. With each week it got better,by week 6 I believe I turned the corner.Like the posters above suggested exercise is invaluable during detox and as worried mentioned there are things the doctor can prescribe to you to help lessen the severity of the w/ds.I didn't use anything during my detox, but I made it through and you will too.I have over a year clean now.A lot of folks here are a huge part of that accomplishment.Keep posting and let me know if I can help. All the best...Kim
How long have you been on methadone for? Have you been on it for 4 years? I'm sorry to say this to you but you are going to be in withdrawal for atleast a month. You need to be prepared to feel like **** for a long time and just suck it up and deal. You won't sleep for a long time. I was on 15 mg of Methadone by the end of a 6 month weaning program and detoxed off of that and it took me 3 weeks to sleep at all, even 1 hour. I lost 20 lbs, and my skin was crawling for even longer, however your sex drive will definetely bounce back to a comfortable level. You need to tell your partner that you are going to be sick for a while and if he is willing to support you through that. Another thing is that you need to do this for yourself, not just him. Hope I was helpful. There is nothing you can do while in withdrawal except try to do exercises, you are going to be pumped up on a adrenaline the only benefit of the beginning part of the withdrawal. I remember being able to do push ups about 2 1/2 weeks into withdrawal, but then when my adrenaline ran out after I started sleeping again, I couldn't do one, anyway, excercising will help push your endorphins in faster. Also, drink lots of water and stay positive. Go to NA meeting because it is something to do to occupy your time even if you can't concentrate enough to talk you can listen.
I have no advise. You are an inspiration and I pray you obtain it. blessings
