oxycontin and percocet addiction

First time on this site and it seemed to have alot of knowledgeable people on this subject. I have been taking ocycontin and percocet for seven years now. My dose 120mgs three times daily for a total of 360mgs daily and around 6 TO 9 percocet witch is ocycodone at 325 mgs each pill. I understand that this is a huge amount of drugs to be putting in my body on a daily basis but please know that I do not abuse them as everything I take is all prescribed and never take more than my prescribed dose. The reason for my posting is that I have started in the last little while noticing some real bad side effects. The one I have been bothered with the most is sexual and it is starting to effect my wife. I used to have such a high sexual drive more than the normal but now nothing and the worst part is that when we do have sex I have a very hard time reaching orgasms. Sometimes I don't at all and my wife is starting to take it personal as any women would. Other symtoms are just being constantly tired and never having any energy to do anything. I am in the contruction industry and my boss has even noticed a decline in my production. All in all these drugs are ruining my life and I am constantly depressed.  If I didn't have two kids and a wife that is so understanding who knows what I would do with my life. I have tried alternate drugs with the advice from my doctor but nothing seems to do the trick like my oxys. I was in an accident that broke my neck and between the surgeries and nerve damage I am in constant crippling pain. I ran out of pills once when my doctor was on vacation and went three days with no pills as I don't know any drug dealers. Let's just say I almost jumped out my bedroom window as I had no idea that withdrawing from oxys could be that bad. What my plan is is that I want to come off of them on my own to see how much pain I am in and to see how much I can tolerate and im hoping that I could decrease if not eliminate all together witch I don't think is possible. I hate having my life dictated by these ******* pills. Is there anybody willing to help from me. I need to know what is the proper dose to be taking to come off of these without withdrawing. I don't care how long it takes I am will to be patient. I don't want to tell my doctor because I know he will not agree with what I want to do but unless u are in the situation I am in u have no idea what it does to your life. Please help. Thank you very much.

Hi,I was taking alot of oxy but not quite that much and not that long. The one you are talking about that is 325mg is probably only five mgs of ox and the 325 is acetominophen(tylenol).Percocet 10mg is the highest dose that percs come in.Still this is a large amount of oxy per day overall. This can easily cause the extra pain that you did not have before.I am assuming that you have risen to this level over time and did not start at this level. At this amount just cutting one half of one oxycontin out of the deal and see how you feel after a week would be doable. Then cut out another. With this amount it will be a slow taper over months.I never was able to taper.I just wanted to go through hell and get it over with.since you ran out before you know this will not kill you but this doctor has you on an awful lot and it would not hurt to make an appointment with another doctor and he can give you clonidine, which is a non narcotic blood pressure med.It helps alot.I have used it.It keeps you more comfortable and there are lots of other meds that make this more comfortable.I wish you the best

Hey bro for the most part I am anti methadonew because I have been on it for 5 yrs and am currently trying g to get off it...but maybe that is a way for u to go. Most people w chronic pain say it works well and it lasts 3-4 times longer than the oxy/perks/narco ...I dunno...talk to a pain mngmt Dr. But if I had to make a reccomendation and u can't get off the Odyssey by ur self...and really need pain management then I think that is what methadone is for. Also doesn't have acitomenaphine(sorry for bad spelling) in it like some of the other meds ur on, which has serious liver issues down the road.

Thank you so much for the help it means alot. To bad you can give taper schedules as that's kind of what I was looking for as I have no experience on tapering. The only reason why I mention about my doctor not wanting to work with me is because he is a big believer in the drug and he knows I need them to manage my pain and thinks it is very unnecessary to go through withdraw symptoms as it is very painful to do so. Also he is a big believer that there are no long term medical side effects to the drug ie liver heart ext. Obviously depression and sexual side effects aside as he does not see these as long term medical side effects. I honestly do think I will sit and talk with him so he can give me the proper medical advice on how to taper properly. Thanks for everything and please keep the suggestions and comments comming as it really helps and knowing I am not alone in this battle of drug addiction.

Hi.  Not sure about the leg pain.  I can tell you that a lot of people have side effects from these drugs after a while.  At first it helps the pain, but after  a while, not so much.

We're not allowed to give taper schedules here.  I can tell you that I tapered off a ton of medications.  I never misused them, never even thought about it.  My pain management team felt I needed to be on them.  Now that I am down to a minute dosage, they are more willing to work with me.

All I can really say is you're not alone in this.  When you taper, go very, very slowly.  There were times I got overly anxious about coming off, and I paid the price.  Withdrawals are awful, whether you're addicted or just dependent.  When you drop by a small dose, stay at it until you feel comfortable.  Keep very hydrated, eat healthy etc.  If you taper properly, you probably won't feel any withdrawals at all.  When you get to a small dose you can't just stop without much problem.

You will have to figure out how to deal with your pain.  There's a pain management forum here that is helpful for some.  I, too, am trying to see if I can live with zero narcotics or what's the least I can get by on.  You may have some rebound pain as you come off it, and you won't know what your real pain is until you're off totally.  I'm trying other methods to help with the pain.  They help minimally but it's something.

I'm sorry you think you're doctor won't work with you.  If that's the case, you really should seek out another physician.  It's supposed to be a team, with you included.  Good luck and keep posting!
