I am just curious if those who has history of heroin addiction and has stop but continous using of marijuana and alcohol. My question is there a permanent damage in the brain for using heroin in the past. Will you categorize this person as an addict now because he keeps on smoking marijuana and drinking everynight. You dont know if you believe him or not. Are alcoholics and potuser will affect the brain also.,in a way of thinking,no direction in life all what he has to do is fix himself. He became uncaring,numb,iresponsible,liar and cheat.

Yeah I guess its tough love thanks I just want to help him his well being. But i feel really like he is dargging me to get drowned. I should be strong. Its obvious that he is an addict. The heavy use of marijuana and everyday alcohol affected his personality. He said he is finish,he is out of control and more now he is disappearing for weeks and cut the communication. I just dont know what to do to get him into recovery. His way of thinking is so much different. I guess he feels guilt and shame for his disappearance.He wants to stop this but he is out of control,maybe he has mood disorder as well.
Thanks for reading my post. I just want to express out what am feeling. I hope theres a way that he can hit the rock bottom.

Tough love works for some.. as addicts we have to want to help ourselves.. although he gave up H he is still an addict and as an addict his new fix is alcohol.. You seem to be blaming the H. not sticking up for the H but this does not seem like your Husbands problem..now it is alcohol and it sounds as if his choice of friends has a lot to be desired.. Have you layed it out for him.. how you feel.. that you are here looking for help as you no longer recognize your husband.. Drug addicts usually do not come to there senses we hit bottom..  but the problem is we drag everyone down with us.. Keep reading the forum and learn what You can for yourself and your children.. we also have a alcohol forum I would suggest checking out and see if anything sounds familiar.. he is my H and I wish i can persuade him to give up all this. Sometime he mentions he wants to give up drinks and pot. He swear he is not using heroin anymore and pills. But the urge to take is more,I guess he is not ready yet. He is not violent not unless you push him to . I guess he has some mood disorder but he is on denial.
Sometimes am thinking how people turn into this destructive substance and what made you give up? This time also he can get his fix by a ***** who is enabling him .He takes advantage of this I guess.My kids future is affected, I want him to come in his senses but dont know how I can make him face reality.

I agree with all the above.You sound very worried and frightened. I take it that this is a partner or relative? I was a heroin addict for 13yrs and im 33 days clean. I have smoked pot also and used to like a drink very occasionally. I am not quite sure yet how much the heroin has damaged me yet but i have had liver function tests etc as i have an illness(not related to drugs) and my doctor doesnt know i take heroin but  they seem to be normal and my doctor doesnt suspect anything. I think it has affected my memory but im hoping it gets better the longer i am off it. I think pot affects people in different ways, some people seem to be ok others it can make paranoid etc, but the alchohol i would say is the one that does the most damage. I know people who have taken heroin and pot for years and they are ok but the people i know that were alchoholics most of them are dead, dying of organ failure. Usually heroin will make you lie cheat etc but not really aggressive unless you cant get it of course,but alchohol usually makes a person aggressive especially if they have some kind of underlying problem alchohol will only exagerate the problem. I myself think alchohol is the thing that would do the most damage as it affects the organs quite badly. Obviously none of them are good for you but alchohol i would say is the worst. I agree with sway you sound as if you are sitting with a time bomb. Please be careful and keep posting, you can pm me anytime you want or just put another post in. the longer he stays off heroin, the better. does he drink alot? like start early and keep on all day? if it makes him aggressive and irritable, then you should steer clear of him. he needs to give it up. can he? alcohol tends to amplify your real feelings. so if it makes you behave badly, then you got some things that need to be worked on. for some reason i am getting a bad feeling from this, like maybe you've got yourself a time bomb. i just don't want you to be hurt girl. i'm not trying to offend. pot  i don't think causes the behaviors you mentioned, but i could surely be wrong. keep posting on here. someone will have the answers you are looking for. take care. peace.   sway

something like if you stop this heroin but still on in pot and alcohol. I know while your using it really affects the brain. but now that you are clean from heroin ,in other words will it remain the effect in your brain ? or because he goes on using pot and drinks alcohol? I just wonder or maybe he really have mood disorder.
To mention of his behaviour aggressive,irritable,denial,liying,cheating etc.

Considerably greater chance of long term and acute damage from daily use of alcohol....have you ever dropped a worm into a glass of hard liquor? Your internal body organs act quite similarly - - -  and it tortures them until they die and quit functioning.  Pot is not a health product ..... but it wont steal your intellect and harm livers and such like alcohol will do - - -

i  was a heroin addict for13 years & smoked weed may be even longer i have lied stole & may have been uncaring aswell i dont know if it has affected my brain permanently it certainly did while i was useing heroin & i have never been a drinker could not afford it as all the money we had went on heroin the heroin made me numb to all things in life you wont and cant trust while useing i hope this helps & we have been heroin free for 33 days and life can only get  better for us now i will say that heroin is a very hard drug to kick but can be done only with the right help and support and willpower hope this helps good luck psi think pot smokeing can make someone paranoid
