please help. opiate addiction/suboxone question

i am a healthy 25yo male at this time last year, i started doing a lot of oxycodone for about 2-3months on n off i was doing 60mg a day i was able to use suboxone to stop but fell into a deep depression while coming off of the painkillers...now once again i was doing about 60-120mg a day for about 5--6weeks..i don't want to do this any more i want a little advice on what to do. i have 2 mg suboxone tablets and i take little pieces as needed to stop from withdrawing but going thru this process for  a second time i now realize that after about 10 days of no painkillers and trying to lower the does of suboxone, i have become severly depressed. Depression so bad that i was not able to function at my new job and did an experiment by taking pain killers again and i have figured out that i am suffering from depression from comming off the pk.  i dont know if i can deal with being so depressed at such a important time in my career...how long is this depression going to last? should i use a larger dose of suboxone per day to help with the depression? any advice is appreciated greatly thank you

Hey there!  Looks to me like you are self medicating.  That is a dangerous game that can become a lifelong one!  Especially if you do have real depression that you are masking.  You don't want to use suboxone for that, ok?  There is nothing wrong with asking for an AD from your doctor.  Just don't keep trying to kill depression with painkillers.  It's not going to work in the long run!

Hi & Welcome,

You really need to get off that roller coaster you are on. It is not healthy to go on and off of the pain medication and then on and off of Suboxone. That is not at all what the Suboxone program is about. You are screwing around with your brain chemistry and it is no wonder you are depressed.

I honestly have to suggest that you get to your family doctor, get honest, get a good check-up and talk to him about your depression. there is no shame in that and they have medications that can help you.

The longer you continue to do this with the pills, the worse the depression/anxiety will get. Like you said, you have a career now and you need to make your health and your career a priority.

Best of luck. Keep talking and let us know how you make out.
