Am I crazy?

I am seriously thinking about quitting smoking right in the middle of all this insanity. Am I crazy? I feel like now might be a good time since I have no idea what the hell I am feeling anyway so maybe I wouldn't even notice if it's uncomfortable. I just don't want to do anything to jeopardize how far I have gotten. Tomorrow may only be 7 days but to me it's huge. Just looking for opinions from everyone cause I have come to trust all of you immensely.

Maybe, while your brain is in the "this feels like ****" mode...why not?

Try to keep yourself busy today.  If it is nice where you live get some fresh air and sun.  It isnt uncommon to feel this way at this point.  Just know brighter days are ahead~

All the I sanity, unexpected turns, intense feelings, this is all normal. I compare detox to chime birth, it is like birthing a new person. The birthing pain is Intense, feels unbearable, but the truth is, many live through it and profess, "This new life is a miracle, all the pain doesn't even come close to the joy of this new life." Hang in there, once your head makes it out and you get your first gasp of fresh air, you will not regret the worst of it.

No worries about trying to quit smoking today. Just trying not to cave today instead. Woke up feeling horrid. wasn't prepared for this. just want it all t go away

In my addiction recovery class, we studied the clinical trials and research in rehabs across the nation. The conclusion was, those in rehab who quit all drugs at once and those who kept smoking, had real close to the same success rate in being totally clean a year later. The issue is more of a problem in early recovery, one detoxes and starts to feel a little better, then they try to quit. The withdrawal is too intense to end it with another withdrawal, was the conclusion I came up with, but like you said, if you are in the throws of it anyway, then it can work out just fine. I also realize that these people were in a professional facility and had tons of support and resources int their detox. I like what spider said, if you don't feel like it, don't smoke, if you do, then don't beat yourself up. The main thing is to get off opiates, so you will have a clear mind, if cigs don't stop that process, from stopping them or using them, then you are making progress. Remember, progress over perfection. We don't detox and all of a sudden become the good people we want to be, we have to practice being off drugs awhile, before we get the hang of it, most of us anyway. Do whatever you want, just make sure you keep progessing.

I stopped weed/ciggies when I quit oxy, it's doable.  I won't say easy, but it's doable.  Ciggies are definitely a brutal mind twist...  The thing is though is that we all have different tolerances for levels of discomfort...  If you want to give it a go then give it a go by all means, but don't stress yourself too much in the doing if it's more than you can take.

The thing with the 'addict brain' (I'm making an assumption here because this is something I experience myself, and see in all my addict friends), is that we can have a tendency to go 100% in a direction and then crash.  Energetically this pattern can cause the progress to be somewhat zig-zaggy and not so consistent because when you crash you're going 0%.   It can be more beneficial to master a 50-60% pace of output sometimes as the progress will be along a more steady path...  Once again though that is an assumption, and it's important for us all to discover these things for ourselves in my opinion, so give the ciggies a go if you're keen, but remember that you do not want to crash so be mindful of your tolerances if it's too much to deal with all at once.

Smoking does cause more anxiety. This is what the Dr told me. I went c/t off 3 meds back in 2012 and I smoked one cig after another for months and months during my w/ds from day in and even at night. It was the most I ever smoked. Now when I had 23 months in I had to have a heart procedure. SO I would be careful on the smoking but also if you can do it, it would be worth it. Your heart already pumps during detox a bit harder but after the physical comes the mental and it was nice to have a cig..Even through now I wish I would of never touch them in my life, which I did not until my late 30s..Try maybe getting the "Blu cig" and try to wing down from the real cigs. I wish you the best.

Thanks that's what I need is just advice. Do you know anybody who tried to quit smoking while going through w/d? I have this sudden urge to not be a slave to any bad habit. But I also know that when I am up all night and can't sleep no matter how tired I am (like now) a cigarette can at least distract me for a few minutes. I quit both times I was pregnant over a year each time. What an idiot I am!

Ya I deff wouldn't just throw your cigs out and say "I quit". Keep them on hand and try if you want to,but atleast if you start going through killer w/d's on top of these w/d's your cigs are there. I don't know if you've ever attempted to quit smoking before?i quit in 2009 and the w/d's I thought would kill me. Almost worse than the oxys mentally the first month. So maybe one thing at a time?

Hey girl.....what IBK said .....don't do too much at one time .....you may feel like superchick one minute but the next......not so much.  You're doing great....if ya don't feel like smoking...don't smoke.  If ya do...have a think...then if ya still do....have a smoke.  Grats on 6 days well done!

One day at a time. One thing at a time. Congrats on 7 days..that is huge. Don't push yourself honey. Get through withdrawal..get to feeling better and then conquer that nicotine addiction. I don't want to see you pile so much on that it is overwhelming. Keep going forward.
