Just before I went to bed I would take a very HOT bath, wrap my legs with ace bandages( not real tightly, but snug) Take a Valium, and hope for the best.....this usually got me through for several hours of sleep.

The previous posts are also good advice.
Good Luck and .....Good night!!!````````````` zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz's

Mine only lasted about a week and then was not too bad but continued for a couple weeks. My son was addicted to heroin for 4 years and he has been clean for almost as long. His is still there but that seems uncommon. He takes a perscription that is just for RLS. Back in the 60s and 70s they used to call detoxing Kicking the habit bc of the RLS...they had not come up with the name RLS yet. This is very normal and temporary. Corey

please dont take my comment as a suggestion to use Vic or other drug to help with RLS. I just meant that's what some Dr.'s do.
Amazing how Dr's will get many of us into worse trouble; but I dont want to talk bad about them; as I am in no position to do so; I just tell my truth.

i have had RLS over the yrs as early as teenager. This was when I was dangerously developing my alcoholism, so I dont know what caused it, as some say it can be inherited.
Back then, I remember using alcohol to knock me out (sleep) as the only quick cure.

Looking at Wikipedia just now I see it can be caused by iron deficiency, so you may look into that?

Also they say there is an osteopathic manipulation that works in 80% clients.

They say that medical sources, use opiates and valium as a "cure for symptoms"... so go figure.

I have to be careful because when sleeping or waking or trying to fall asleep, I will stretch my leg, and get a horrible cramping in the calve... wow; i have to be careful NOT to stretch when i get RLS.

When trying to sleep, or relax and RLS hits, that is the limit for me; I am usually really feeling w/d's and then I feel like I have to take a dose; it's usually when the half life of the sub is kicking in wd's...

That's when I give in because i am prone to panic attacks and i really dont want to go there. at least I am stretching out the low doses, but that is a bridge that i will have to cross somehow.

Corey's absolutely right about the exercise! It may sound a little crazy especially if you're not feeling well... but it helps with all wd symptoms. Exercising releases natural 'feel good' endorphins in our brains, not to mention it will tire you out!!

Taking the vicodens while detoxing off of trams probably isn't the most efficient way to go! It may also prolong your wds from the trams and I'm sure you don't want to suffer any longer than you absolutely have to!! I'm not really sure what will help with the RLS. There are some OTC meds that are supposed to help, but I don't have much knowledge of that. Try taking a hot bath or shower - that might take the edge off a bit. I wish I could help more but someone may be along shortly with an answer for you. You could try searching MedHelp for RLS I know there's been many posts on the topic. GL!

There are some OTC meds for RLS...Some have said they help and some say not. Many people wrap there legs tightly in ace wrap and many have said that helps. Hot baths, drink lots of fluid...energy drinks w Potassium and bannanas. Try to exercise as crazy as that might sound. Walk alot during the day. Try not to take the Vics....this will delay your wds. Unfortunatly RLS is a wd symptom from opiate use and we gotta go through it. Good news is it won't last. God bless and good luck. Corey
