Oxycontin Constipation ...

This is embarrassing. I found your fabulous site quite by accident, and I'm amazed by the help offered b the people here.

I was prescribed Vicodin for back pain about two months ago, and found I got a pleasant "buzz" from them. I started taking more than the recommended dose, and when I ran out, my doctor said "No way. Take as prscribed, or I'll cut you off."

Well, a friend told me e had better painkillers -- oxycondone or something -- and he sold me a bottle of purple/green pills, which really fixed everything, except for a problem which developed recently.

I'm seriously "backed up." I strain on the toilet for hours, and now I seem to have a lot of "piles" which bleed something awful. My anus burns so bad, I have to take more pills to stop the pain, which is in my back, and now, my anus.

I think the pills make me more productive, but I'm too embarrassed to tell my doctor, who thinks I'm some kind of addict.

I've gone through nine tubes of Anusol to try to shrink these huge piles, but no success. I wonder if I should take Ex-Lax or something, but I need help here.

The pills make me feel really normal, but my butt is in agony. Please help me.

Thank you,

GP

I'm absolutely on-board with you on ALL of the symptoms you mentioned above, especially lack-a-poop! The amount of tylenol in vicodin also did a number on my liver - it's not "user" friendly stuff to get buzzed on. I'd get buzzed and chase it with more the rest of the day without ever catching it again. I've lost the privilege to use vicodin - When I abused my pain med I abused the privilege to use it. It's a privilege, not a right. I used it as a buzz with a little pain relief on the side lol. Now that I'm 18 days out of the bondage of opiates, my original pain isn't really "that bad".

Non-addicts change their behavior to meet their goals; addicts change their goals to meet their behavior. Only YOU know if you're an addict. Read, search, google, become informed, know what you're doing to yourself. If you think you have a problem, find a way to stop, find the desire somewhere inside of you to surrender and save yourself. Addiction to opiates is a mental obsession with a fatal progression.

I go to NA. I love it. NA is the only place where you can walk into a room full of strangers and reminisce. NA has no fixed address -- you can take it with you.  We are not reformed drug users, but informed addicts.

Ditto....everything that has been said. That buzz will end so soon, and you're friend will not have any pills, and you will feel the horror of heavy withdrawal. If you stop now, get to some NA meetings or whatever works for you. If you have some pills and stop for one or two days....if you can....you will see what withdrawal will be like and you may want to check into rehab. If you cannot stop for 1 or 2 days, you are in too deep already. The fact that you were taking more of the original prescription than written tells me you are addicted already. I have fought this drug habit addiction all of my life. I am now clean 12 days and going to NA meetings regularly. If you continue to use, you risk losing everything and coming back here on your knees begging for help. You will see that constipation is the least of your worries. If you think the drugs make you better, ask someone close to you. They are making you CRAZY! There is really only one choice, go on to the bitter end that we all know, or change the way you are living. Good luck to you.

Stop right now. That 'high' you are enjoying is the devil entering your life to destroy it. I can tell you exactly how to relieve your constipation but I suspect from your note that you will continue to abuse more if you get over the constipation which is your BEST FRIEND right now telling you something is very wrong and needs to be stopped immediately. You are suffering fecal impaction from hard stool caused by the narcotic and like me you could end up in the ER with horrible back spasms unable to walk from all that backed up poop in your intestines/colon. The pure hell of narcotic addiction needs to scare the crap out of you along with laxatives. Confess to your doctor, ask him for a scrip of Lactulose Syrup and NEVER take another pain pill for "fun" PERIOD

The constipation is really the least of your problems, you are in the midst of developing a serious addiction to a deadly drug. Before long, if you keep  going, the buzz you enjoy so much will be gone and you will need the pills just to feel ''normal''. being that its only been a couple of months since you started I would strongly recommend you stop NOW. If I could go back in time I would have never continued using oxy. I did and I got hooked and like you, suffered from chronic constipation and that was just the tip of the iceberg. Before long I ended up with bloody poop (sorry tmi), a nagging pain in my side (liver maybe?) and ended up spending a sickening amount of money on pills when I ran out early which always happened. You are on the edge of a cliff right now. Keeping on going with the pills will ruin your life. just read other posts of what oxy abuse leads to. In the end it can and will destroy you. Like you I enjoyed I buzz, the energy I got from them and so on but believe me, that is short lived. Soon there will be no buzz and this pill will control every aspect of your life. In essence, you will become a slave to them and to your addiction. PLEASE stop now, read up on the Thomas recipe and Amino acid protocol and try going cold turkey, also line up some aftercare. there is a reason (or many reasons) why people end up self medicating - to cover up emotional pain. Seeing a therapist can help you with those issues so you can get and STAY clean. Nobody starts using painkillers thinking they'll end up ruining their lives with them but it happens A LOT and your going down a road to nowhere. You may think you have it under control but you don't. The fact you are taking meds off the street, running out early from your meds and using them for a buzz is a recipe for disaster. The doctor, who thinks your ''some kind of addict'' is RIGHT. Because you are. Don't mean to sound harsh but the reality is you need to step back and get off the pills before you end up in a far worse place then you are now.

Please take it from someone who has been there - who is STILL struggling. You don't want to stay on oxy or any other pain meds. You have no idea the destruction a pill habit can create. A sore butt will be the least of your problems, seriously.

Hope you really think about this and get as far away from them as you can. They WILL destroy your life. You aren't too far into it and now is the perfect time to stop and don't look back.
