This is probably one of the toughest parts of withdrawal,,the insomnia. I know it *****. I would play a internet game and come here and read to help calm me down. Sleep will come again,,,hang in there~Bkitty

Careful with the benzos Gunn. maybe it's a good thing they give you the RLS...benzos are bad news if taken over any extended period of time and HELL to get off. I've had some experience there. And I too have gone many, many nights with very little or no sleep. I find that If I force myself to not take a nap during the day, I can get at least a little sleep the next night. Most of us here can relate to insomnia. it's got to be the #1 symptom of W/Ding from any opiate. Just know that sleep will come. Can you get any Kava tea? That works
to relax my mind. A hot bath cures my RLS for a few hours.

Hi Gunn, i really do know the situation you are in. There is nothing worse than watching the clock waiting for the sun!!!!! I was a Heroin addict for a similar amount of time as you. Getting a normal sleep routine again has always been my biggest problem after detoxing. I will not suger coat it for you Gunn, sometimes it can take upto, and beyond, a year to get back into a regular routine after going through a detox from long term use. Some people say you have gone through the hard part doing your detox. While we are going through cold turkey i think we all think that this is the worst part? I would say, for most long term addicts, the first yearr after detox can be horrendous. I had a lot of pain in my calfs for months after coming off Heroin, I also suffered with lack of sleep for about 6 months. It takes time my friend. That is the negative side of dealing with all these problems. Dont forget, your body and your mind are still going through a lot of changes. To get to where you are Gunn, 3 MONTHS CLEAN, is a massive achievement MASSIVE. Believe me you soon start feeling and sleeping better. It is a slow process. You should start getting 2 or 3 hours a night, then it slowly builds up from there. To get rid of the pain in your legs, you need to start exercising them. Just go slowly Gunn, just walking more and more is a good start. It will also help with your sleep. Keep looking forward, you are doing great, if you can stay positive it is all down hill from here. Keep posting, there are lots of good people on this site. Best of luck

HI Gunn a lot of things give me rls from cough syrup to benzos even alcohol can trigger it best thing for that is... you guessed it ! walking :) lol it is early morning for you a warm bath might help you to relax some soothing music at least enough to close your eyes and relax your mind.. You are doing so well Your attitude is good it is very important to keep a good frame of mind. all things pass this will also.. On my profile I have a ton of pictures if that does not put you to sleep :) at least it will help you to pass the time. I also spent a lot of time in here reading looking at profiles. when I kicked this last time it took 8 days to sleep then months to regulate. I will send a prayer for you that sleep finds you and that it is a restful one.. lesa

Melatonin - try that to see if it helps.  MUCH better than a benzo (careful there, we can become cross-addicted without realizing that right away).

Definitely try the stuff laurel suggests as well.  Might sound silly, but creating a really nice environment to sleep in helps as well - clean sheets, fresh blankets out of the dryer, comfy PJ's, a good hot shower with a cup of herbal (sleepytime) tea does wonders to help promote sleep.

instead of the benzos try the herbs... they might work... valerian and this kind of stuff, mineral rich food... bananas, apples, nutcrackers.... tonic water, the quinine on it helps too...don't know.. i wish i could have the solution

Oh gosh gunn I know what you're going through.  Just when I thought I was past all the symptoms BAM some would return (insomina, GI issues, etc.)  But they do past completely with time.  I wish I could make this pass quicker for you.  (you are doing great though in case you haven't remembered that with your lack of sleep).  :)
