suboxon for tramadol

Hi all.  My fiance got addicted to tramadol.  Originally he was told it was a non-addictive drug because it is considered a non narcotic.  Boy were we fooled.  He has been on them for atleast 2 years now.. tried to taper off and quit and went through extensive withdrawal symptoms.

He went to his doctor and she prescribed him MORE tramadol.. go figure.. so needless to say we went to another and finally were referred to a "suboxon" dr.    He has taken this soboxon for 6 days now and has a Very minor withdraw..basically a little dizzy.. but the program is for him to take this medication for a very extended period of time.. The last thing he wants to do now is get addicted to another pill.. Does anyone know from experience if you can take it just as long as the tramadol withdraw lasts.. i think i read between 4 and 6 days.. or do you HAVE to stay with the program as long as your dr tells you.
He wants to get off of the tramadol and the program seems to be more for addicts to heroin and stronger type drugs that may cause a relapse.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Sorry for the not so short story here to get to the point:(.

Heed Avisg's advice on this, switching drug of choice from one addictive substance to another just delays the inevitable. Best to just do it right the first time.

Best to do a quick taper from Tramadol and perhaps you can hold the Trams for your Fiance and dole them out to him per a taper plan.

Tramadol withdrawal isn't fun, but many here can attest to the fact that it can be done and have many great success stories and ideas to share. Perhaps your fiance could read their stories from this forum and be encouraged by the success's shared. I too had tapered from Tramadol and know how important support from others (and NA)  can be and may not had been to get clean without it.

Best Wishes
