that dam oxycontin

i had to start oxycontin after an accident.....i want to stop the medication, but have been hearing horror stories...i don't get "high" off the medication, but if i miss a dose or go too late,,i go through horrible effects...does anyone know a good medication to take to ween myself off of this ****...and how long it typically takes...thanx

go to ur family doc. Get xanax for day time. Then Valium to sleep. Get 10 to 20 day script. Tell him ur addicted.   I went four days cold, before I couldnt take it. I remember those days, makes me stay clean. All the advice n luv I got from this site n my wife meant more in those days , then if I were on meds to take away w/d. Give it a week. Depression may follow. Watch if u take antidepressants u may never get off. The xanax will get u by for those first 20 days. Today is 23 days clean 4 me.

There isn't really any certian medication that is a "FIX IT ALL" type of drug to make everything 100% perfect with no side affects.. With that said there are some options.

Since you state that you are not abusing, or taking them to get high and only using for pain then you can do a couple things to help.. First you could try methadone.  When this drug is prescribed by a DR in very small amounts and used for a very very short period of time, it can eliminate Most or ALL of the withdrawl symptoms!(This is based off of experience)

Or there is a drug called Suboxone and one of its many uses is for short term detoxification, and to decrease withdrawls sumptoms as well.  You will need to look these both up and read up on them AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE, and then ask your dr. about these options and see if they agree that it is an option or not..

hi,,thanx,,i take two 80mgs. a day,,and have been taking them for about four months
i feel like i'm gonna go nuts if i don't get off them,,if i take my dose too late..oh my..i can hardly function..this medication should be banned..i hate it...thanx
