Flushing

Just curious?  How many kept pills around the house and quit successfully?  I am sure there are some out there but even at 8 months clean..i can not keep pills here...i flushed and went from there..just curious on everyone's view of getting rid of the pills as a tool to getting clean...also breaking bonds with those u got them from, talking with ur doctor..telling people who gave or sold them to you...to me it was hard when i tried to quit when i had them in the cabinet

After reading some of your posts, I thought of my father.  My father kept a pack of cigarettes in his t-shirt pocket when he quit and every now and then he would feel them to make sure they were there.  That's how he did it.  He needed to know that they were there available if he wanted them.  But, also he said later on, it was a challenge to himself.  He said that's what worked for him.  I don't think we should do that - especially with the types of addictions we're talking about here, but I found that interesting that that brought him comfort and he quit with no problem and never once had a cigarette.  It's been 10 years since then and he still doesn't smoke.

I had pills around for the first 4 days.  I would take them out and count them daily.  Never took any but I wanted to.  For me it was knowing I could eat one or two or three lol and didn't was a good thing...as soon as I was tempted past what I could take I flushed them.

HI,
Cant have the DOC around. I flushed my inventory of Oxys to taper w/ vicoden. I had two weeks worth and know its time to try and really get seriose about my pain levels. It was the hardest thing to watch happen. Just lettin those babies go, man It was hard. But I want to give this a clean period a go. I am tapering off the vicoden and I hope for the best.
I could never keep my DOC in my house, no way.Im just sooooow weak... (big baby)
peace

I was one of the rare ones. I had pills around me and quit. Would I recommend that? NO
Pills are too sneaky, but for me it worked. I knew I had to quit, no matter what.

I know my DOC is a little different with cocaine, but i still like to answer pill posts, lol. There was no chance in hell i could have that stuff here and not use.  I may have lasted an hour, and it would not leave my head knowing it was there. Soon i would be craving so bad i would break. It's weird though, after having a rough couple weeks lately that coke would have been sniffed up, but this week after all the good that has happened and the reason im staying clean, i know i could have a quarter ounze of blow sitting right here now and i would toss that evil garbage out. I think if your getting clean, then there should be no pills in the house, temptation is too much. If you can be around them and not use, then more credit to ya.

My sister has the pills, she had extensive surgery on her ankle/foot (they were crushed in a car accident) and has them around. It's been more than 70 days since I've used any of her "stash". I work in the medical field so I am constantly around them. I made the decision not to think about them. I give them to patients, I can fill forms out and get them, I can ask basically anyone I'm around for whateveer I like It's constant, but I've held my head up high and I'm oen with it. It's over, plain and simple. I've almost slipped once, but it was almost. I've cut all ties wth the people that I work with that I know use or have gotten pills from, and doing so, I've had to break some "friendships" but those people aren't your friends if they push you and pressure you into taking pills or exchanging, I've heard snide remarks and people snicker, but it's not me anymore.

i kept suboxone on me the whole first month just in case. I never used it though. It felt awesome to flush em. However if they were true oc or perc i wouldnt keep them in the house what so ever during that withdrawl.

My goodness there are some very happy fish in the sea. lol

My problem is tough. My husband is in chronic pain so they are around.  I don't take his because I can't stand to see him hurt and he is one of the lucky people that can take a pill for the pain and not open the bottle for a  week and not care.  He will have a  bottle for 6 months.

So I have had to be clean and know they are in the house. Very hard even though morally I would not touch them and haven't.

I knew I was running out of my Lortabs and so I started weaning myself off since the pain I originally took it for had just stopped a week or so prior.  I knew that if I called my doctor for more I could get them.  I also knew that if I asked my mother (who lives with us) that she would give me some.  But, I had decided even though I was stopping because I was running out that enough was enough.  In fact, I had taken a half a pill on 9/2 and that Saturday I was such a mess that I called my SIL to get our doctor's personal cell phone number to tell her how I was feeling.  My FIL offered me several of his Lortab until I could get a refill because he didn't want me to feel the way I was feeling.  I told him "NO!"  I told him I appreciated his offer, but that I had to do this.  Luckily, I was able to speak with my doctor and she was able to help me.  Even though I didn't have any left, I knew my family would give them to me.  I don't know why but it feels good to know that and that I didn't give into it even during the most difficult times!!!!

Have a wonderful day!!!

i flused 120 pills the moment i got home from my first sub appt, then a week later i called my doctor and told him everything. i didnt want any temptation. i know i dont ever wanna go back, but addiction is very strong, to me its like you have 2 brains, your regular brain, and your drug addicted brain, and that drug brain is really strong, and even though you dont want it anymore, that brain keeps sending signals to take it, and it can get so strong you mess up, so if you dont have any temptation, and no way of getting it, it only makes that drug brain weaker. i hope that just made sense.

No I cant keep pills in my house, when I 1st stopped I took what I had doing a taper. About a month ago my boyfriend found some and gave them to me thinking he was doing me a favor, I FREAKED and told him to get rid of them and he told me he would keep them for emergencies I seriously couldnt go in the house knowing they were in there. I found them and flushed them that was HUGE for me I never thought I would see the day I flushed some good happy pills BUT I knew I would eventually take them if they were around.

If you dont have them ! you cant take them ! It's that easy. But I know how you feel. The day before I went into detox I had 300 pills of Dilaudid known  as Hospital Heroin. The first thought I had was to save them but I knew that was wrong. They were flushed, I hope that helped you some. MAY GOD BLESS YO IN JESUS NAME A-MEN!!!

In the beginning If i had them near me i would take all of them to. I have had to flush a few times. Then a few months ago i was having oral surgery and i had to take some pain meds. I had to control myself and i did. Anytime i thought about taking extra i would think of two things. 1. if i swallow all i will run out and then be in real pain  2. I remember how hard it was for me to get to where i am at and i never ever want to go back to that....NEVER!!
I could never have them in the house with me though if i was having a craving! Those are far and few in between now though.
As far as the people, most people i know do take pain meds. I just say no when asked and its been along sonce i have asked  myself they know i dont take them anymore.

There is NO way I could have them in the house. If they were anywhere near me I would take them. I will have a month clean at the end of the week and I can honestly say if they were around me I would still take them. I haven't been able to cut the people out of my life that I got the pills from...I would lose my entire family. This has been the hardest part for me. I have stayed away from them but I know eventually I am going to see all of them soon with the holidays coming up. No clue how I'm going to deal with that. I guess I'll just take it one day at a time for now.

I could never do it. If I had them I took them. I tried several times to quit with pills in the house and I could go a day or two and cave in. I would not suggest trying this if you are serious about quitting.
