I really wish you were through the worst part, but don't get your hopes up too much. I've talked to so many people and Doctors that have told me it is a 2 year battle and the first 30 days can be Hell. I'm doing better on day 21, but I still feel sick every minute of every day.
hey im on day 15 here - already through the worst - just have to learn to deal w/ pain again - no more dr.s or pills..
i'll jsut have to ween off the next pills -
screw it!
There are Doctors that specialize in adiction. I would strongly suggest seeing one ASAP. My body became addicted to Bennies and Vic when my Dr gave them to me for my back. I had to go to a treatment center to get off them. I see 2 Doctors now and I'm on day 21 without pills. I am still sick as HELL but I have no desire at all to take anything like I was taking. I'm told I have a long road to recovery, but I know there is light at the end of the tunnel...
Best of luck and don't trust your Doctor - question EVERYTHING.

If they are recommending surgery I don't know if I would put it off for a year or too. I waited too long and ended up with nerve damage which caused foot drop. When I had my back surgery it was at the L-5/S-1 level. I had surgery at 9 am and was out of the hospital the next afternoon. They had me up and moving around a few hours after surgery. I was back to a labor intensive job in about 6 weeks. After about a week or so I was able to light work around the house. I know what you mean about laying down causing even more pain. I felt better when I was up walking around. The shooting pain down the hip and but area is horrible! I hope the injections can help you get some relief.
If you can stand the pain, I wouldn't take the Lortab unless absolutely necessary. This is the one that is very addictive. Maybe if you try the other ones they will help and you wont need the Lortab. I have spinal stenosis and bulging discs as well and like you it is worse when I am still in bed at night. The Neurontin helped me tremendously with that.(I also packed on about 30 pounds from it) I would ask about physical therapy. They can teach you some exercises that will really help with the pain and help strengthen the muscles to better support your spine so as not to allow the bone to press on your disc as much. Hope this helps. Many people have become addicted to the opiates for legitimate pain and that is how it started. If you have worries bc of addiction in your family, I would try to stay away from the Lortab unless you can't take the pain and nothing else works. Good luck. Corey
Thanks alot for all the answers they were very helpful. He is sending me for some kind of shots at a pain clinic and I'm sure I will have the surgery eventually, I'm trying to hold out a year or two if possible by then my daughter will have started school. Does anyone know about the surgery for that kind of thing how long is the recovery? And yes it's very painful at times. There is a constant pain that is manageable but if I move the wrong way it's almost paralyzing. The worst is laying down!!!
I had the same issue with the disc pushing on my sciatic nerve causing the leg pain. I was prescribed lortabs and they are very addicting. Neurontin has many uses and is prescribed for nerve pain. I am prescribed that for my nerve pain. I would try to go without the lortab and just try the neurontin as it is not a opiate. Voltaren is a anti-inflammatory. It is still a safer bet than lortab. Robaxin is a muscle relaxer. I was also prescribed a muscle relaxer but it didn't seem to help me. Not saying it won't help you though. Originally my neurologist didn't want to go with the surgery and I was on the pain meds for a year before I finally told him to do the surgery. Just because I had surgery I'm not saying that you do. I just wish I would have had it right away instead of using pain pills to mask the pain. That is what got me where I am today. Has your doctor set you up with physical therapy or any other kind of thing that is suppose to help? Physical therapy can help by using certain stretching exercises to help get those discs back in place. There are also the epidural steroid shots. These can sometimes help with the pain. Just remember that meds mask the pain and don't treat the problem or injury. Get a 2nd opinion and see what another doctor says. I also agree with Sarah about calling a pharmacist to check on all the medications you were prescribed. Pharmacists are much more informed on medications than most doctors. Some doctors just want to manage the pain and not get to the root cause of it. Just do your homework and try to make the best decision regarding your situation. I sure wish I would have! Best of luck to you!
Agree with all above comments. Another thing you might do is to get in touch with your doctor and ask him your questions. It helps to write your questions down first so you will not forget.tell him you are concerned about the amount of medication. Tell him about your concerns about addiction/dependency. Also how bad is your pain? It sounds like your doctor was concerned about the level of pain you were experiencing?
neurontin is a med that attacks nerve pain...it caused me to pack on a few pounds and made me sleepy...lortab is a narcotic pain pill which can become addicting with certain personalities...voltaren is an anti inflammatory used for certain pains....i think they will be okay to take together but as sara said i would ask your pharmacist to be sure...hope you feel better...maria
I agree with sara.. the pharmacist at any pharmacy is a wealth of knowledge on drugs and interactions and do not mind sharing.. sorry about your medical condition. it sounds painful.. take care lesa
I would check with your pharmacist about how these all work together.
BTW I am not addicted to anything and never have been, but with my family history of various addictions I have always stayed away from anything that could be addictive. I think at least of a couple of those things are addictive aren't they?
