mom who wants to quit oxycontin

i am brand new to this site.  i have been addicted to oxycodone for almost 2 years and have recently begun taking oxycontin.  i have 3 beautiful young daughters and want to be a better person for them.  i want to get off of these things but i have recently gone through some withdrawals (cold sweats, diarrhea, racing heart) when i'm out of them and and find myself getting more to stop these awful feelings.  i started taking oxycodone for pain and the stress of having 3 children in a matter of 18 months (twins and then a "surprise") made me start taking them to deal with the chaoticness of my life.  ALthough things are getting easier on the parenting side, i find myself not able to stop taking them and find my usage has increased, as has my tolerance.  i just wanted to know if there's anyone else in my similar situation, for support.

Yes there are many people on this site in your similar situation. I had a script for vicodin  but would buy oxy or whatever for the run out time.  I watch kids for a living.  I know the wds are hard but after the first week you will be amazed how much easier it was than you had imagined. Say to yourself This too shall pass.  Try to keep POSITIVE THOUGHTS .  Stinking thinking can destroy you.  The amount I suffered from wds is nothing compared to the loss of me.  I mean the real me not the buzzing on opiates me.  I thought I got more done on vics and oxy but I have a real smile now and I get more done than I ever could on pills

Yeah, i have 3 kids under 4!!  Ha....3 yr. old twin girls and a 21 month old girl.  the baby was severely colic...screamed and projectile vomited for 6 straight months and the twins were only 18 months at that time.  That's when it all started.  Marital problems added to the everyday stress.  We're trying to get back on track as we speak.  So, it's approaching two years of use.  I'm going to go w/ the taper method for sure.  Thanks for your post.  Now i know i'm not alone.

Hi!! I have 4 kids under the age of ten and pretty much share the same story they helped me chill out at the end of the night, but then I thought well maybe they wouldmake the day less stressful to!! And befor I knew it I'm broke and its christmas and Oh my god I'm addicted to this stuff. I just  stayed with vics or precocet. I tapered, I think the others told you how to do it. It makes it easier to take care of the kids. Its going very smoothly I only have a few hours a day where I feel yucky I have gone from 6-7 a day starting at 8am down to 2 one at 5 and one at 10 Everyday I make it farther than the day before, before  I need another one so hopefull by about another week I am going to be done maybe a little longer, baby steps huh!!  GOOD LUCK!!!

Just dont taper to fast and dont lower the dose to drastically. You are better off doing ct than a wrong taper. Taperring takes time to do. Took me around 6 months to do mine.

Thanks.  Finding this site has really gotten me more focused and serious about this.  i always thought of my use as recreational, but it's definitely gotten out of hand.  i am, by nature, a very high strung Type A personality and need to handle stress better than just by popping pills.  Thanks for your support and understanding.

Thanks!  I was taking 60 oxycodone in a matter of a week, so that's like 8 a day...5 mg. each and now i take 2 60 milligrams of oxycontin a day.  I appreciate the support.  I have thought about tapering and that's what i'm trying to do now.  i've only taken one 10 mg. percocet today, so far.  i hope to only take 2 more today, which is 10 mgs. less than i'm used to.  i'm taking it day by day for now.

I too am a mother of 2 little girls. I also starting increasing my dosage as my tolerance grew. That's when I knew I needed to stop, not for me, but for my children. Opiates tend to dull your feelings and the world around you. Tapering is best for some, but I cold turkey'd it...twice. I'm now on day 4 and feel ok. All of us have been where you are, increasing our dosage because our tolerance grew and we want to stop...it's why we're here. And we're here for you!

We can tell you the mistakes we made and what helped us during the process. Unfortunately there are no easy ways but there are ways to help. Taperring is what worked for me but requires patients and determination. keep posting and let us help you.
