Are you misusing your medications?  Or are you taking them as directed?  Do you still have pain?  I was on Fentanyl for about 7 months.  It definitely wasn't the drug for me.  I feel it made a mess of me.  I asked my docs to taper me down but they weren't that interested in that so I essentially did it myself.

If you want to get off, you should be able to ask your doctor to wean you off properly.  You'll get lots of support and suggestions here.

I was on the patch 7 years ago and getting off of it was no fun at all. I took it as I was suppose to but since then I have learned that medication is for terminal patients. so they dont have to come off of it. if you can answer all the questions mary asked you I am sure somebody could offer your more advice.

I'm a little confused.  It sounds like you have a real pain issue and need some relief from your pain.  If that's the case, there's a pain management forum here that you may find helpful.  There's also a big difference between being addicted to a medication and being dependent.  Anyone who takes pain medication for a long time will become physically dependent.  It seems as though you've been prescribed the Fentanyl.  The doctors can taper you down from that slowly and may cover you with other medications.  Sorry I'm not so clear on your situation.  There are a lot of great suggestions here for withdrawal symptoms.  I hope you can find the answers you're looking for.

It sounds as though you really need some close medical supervision.  Playing with the Fentanyl doses is very dangerous.  Some people do metabolize medications more quickly than others, but that's not something that happens a lot.  Are you trying to come off the Fentanyl or are you trying to find the right dose for your pain?  In either case, the best thing is to be honest with your physician and let them either adjust the dose properly (or change to a different medication if this isn't right for you) or will taper you off it.  There's also help with withdrawals here.  Lots of people use the Thomas Recipe and it helps withdrawal symptoms.

ok thank you wat it is i no im dependant on the doctors arnt givin me much help at the min thay are lookin into things but i dont no how long that will be.wat im doin is gathering nolage myself so wen i do see the doctor im one step ahead because i dont want to be on these anymore i wont be strong enougth to taper them down so ill need them to give me something to countre act the withdraw and put me on something els.i am allways honest with wat i take 5 years ago i went into rehab for alcohol abuse so i no about dependancy i just fill my doctors are a bit slow in coming forward as regards for pain i think im fine im over the worst so i want to come of the opiats if im still in pain then go onto something els not opeats sorry i cant spell very well.so yeah im trying to get as much nolage as i can then im going to make an opintment and say iv got to come off under supervision because im not strong enougth on my own especialy as iv got a box full aswell us adicts like to horder i would have great pleashure in burning them at the end of this.i hope your starting to get a beter picture mary im not the best at explaining but im not geting much help from the doctors so thank you

You're heading in the right direction with gaining knowledge and also being honest with the doctors.  Fentanyl can be hard to taper off, but it can be done.  I had been on it for pain management and didn't feel it was a good medicine for me.  I tapered slowly with using other medications, under doctor's supervision somewhat (they didn't really want me to come off it.)  Look into the Thomas Recipe for help with any withdrawal symptoms.  Sometimes, even if you taper, you wind up in mild or moderate withdrawals.  Staying hydrated is very important and there are things you can do to help with that.  No worries on the spelling.

Here is the Thomas Recipe...You are on very high doses of fentanyl and should not go off without your doctor's supervision.  There are other medications that help with opiate detox that they can prescribe like clonidine.  Please take good loving care of yourself and keep posting!

Sending support...

HI........well it time to get off them if your getting withdrawals between patched and a 70hr dose is only lasting 5hr you could go to your doctor and have hime work out a taper plan im a little reluctant to tell you to go C/T because of your health problems best to ask the doctor for a taper plan and give the patches to someone you trust to give to you according to the plan let us know what the doctor says again to many health problems to risk just jumping off.......Gnarly

It could also be that you're feeling like this because you have too much Fentanyl in your system.  Shame on your GP to not help you with this, especially since he knows how many patches you're putting on.  While you're waiting for the pain clinic, can you see some at an emergency room or an urgent care?  Maybe you could call the pharmacist and see if he has any suggestions for something for the sweating ... maybe some all-natural product.  I wish I had better suggestions for you.  What you're doing is so worrisome.

You are seriously playing with fire the way you're using the patches.  You're getting hot/ cold flashes because you are over- rather than under-medicated.  The way you're using them now should mean that you run out early every month.  How are you handling that?

I spent over 6 years on the fentanyl patch for chronic pain and finally weaned myself off them about 3 months ago so I know how difficult it can be.  Although addiction issues and detox are supposed to be part of a pain doc's scope of practice, my personal experience tells me it's not something most of them concern themselves with.  My doctor was no exception so I took the bull by the horns myself.  I used the flat, non-gel pouch patches and cut tiny slivers off each time I put on a new one and was able to avoid debillitating withdrawal symptoms.  It took a couple tries to make the final jump but I finally did it.  Funny how I really though that cr*p was a miracle in the beginning and also funny how I feel better without it than with it.

I've lived with chronic pain and nausea and countless surgeries since 1998, and during that time I've learned that the most effective pain management takes place in the mind.  Just as we have to accept feeling like shite for a while as we detox, pain patients have to learn to accept a new normal where pain is concerned.  Like anything else in life, it's a struggle but well worth the effort.

I don't think joefranklin was trying to panic you.  But when I read your posts, I felt a bit panicked.  You really are playing with fire.  JayBay gave you fantastic advice.  She helped me tremendously when I was coming off Fentanyl.  It's not always easy but it can be manageable. If you have those type of patches, cutting it away a sliver at a time can be the best way to wean off.  (Of course, if you have the gel-filled patches, NEVER cut them as it can release all the medication and you can overdose or even die)

The mind is our biggest asset in pain control.  And distraction.  Keeping busy will help to keep you from thinking of the pain.  I've come off more medications than I can count.  I still am on a very low dose of a narcotic but I'm hoping to get off that as well.  I was afraid of how bad my pain will be but it's actually better than when I was on very high doses of many narcotics.

The tinnitus is frustrating.  I have it as well, probably from many concerts as a kid and from my work.  I find when there's silence it's much worse so I usually have on background noise, whether it's the TV or radio.  I have a friend who has it and she has a noise machine that she sets to peaceful sounds ... rain, birds chirping, the ocean, etc.  It may help.

Please try AA or NA.  You could get a sponsor and I think that would be a big help for you.  This is a great forum but you need someone in real life to help you with this.

And JayBay is right ... many doctors prescribe these meds but really don't know how get people off them.  But it can be done and you can do it!!!!

Please think about what people are saying to you.  We're concerned about you.
