withdrawl from vikes

Hello...I've been on 15 10mg vikes for a year now and have decided to go CT starting Friday.  I've been through it before, but I wasn't taking as much then.  I've got access to a few meds to "hopefully" make things easier and wanted some input on what you all think.   I'm new to this sight and it looks very helpful to people suffering from my same situation and would really appreciate your insight from experience.

1) I've got 10mg valium that I plan to take for the first couple days to basically sedate myself through the misery.  I'm not sure how often to take this through day, so any suggestions would be appreciated.

2) Clonidine to  the keep my blood pressure down and hopefully decrease some of the symptoms.

3) All I have  for sleep is melatonin.  I can get some ambien, but wasn't sure is that's safe to take with the valium.  Have any of you had success with amien during withdrawal??

Last time I CT I used xanax, and clonidine.  I always take trazadone for sleep so I didn't have a problem except occasionally waking with leg aches.  I took the clonidine every 6 hours the first 3days.  It helped with the anxiety, heart palpitations and the sweats.  The xanax I took every 6 hours also, but alternated the times with clonidine so I was taking something every 3 hours while I was awake.  So, 6am clonidine, 9am xanax, 12 clonidine, 3pm xanax.....etc.  After the 3 days, I only took the clonidine every 12 hours if i needed it.  by day 5 I didn't need anything.

Taking a good multivitamin will help with the leg cramps as well as eating bananas for extra potassium.  The first 3-4 days are the worst.  In fact the first day is not too bad, its toward the end of the 2nd day you want to give in.  Just stay strong, keep focused on the goal, and come here and post 24/7 if you need to.

i feel for you, man.

Benadryl (diphenhydramine) - check

Immodium or equivalent caplets (contains an unscheduled opiate, Loperamide, that does not cross the blood-brain barrier, i.e. won't get you high) but may help trick the opiate receptors in your intestines into 'believing' that you took something that will make you better. at the very least it will help with the 'runs'.

if you only have a couple, i would hold off on the valium until you REALLY need it.

i've heard very good things about clonodine, but haven't tried it myself. thankfully, i haven't needed to for a while. it's nice to be 'free', but god that thought is ever-present.

if you have any friends (or your doc) with Xanax or other benzos, that would help a lot. just make sure you don't get hooked on THOSE!

it's probably going to suck no matter what you do, but at least you can minimize the symptoms even just a little bit.

good luck

Eagle,  Did you use any Benzo's to get you the first couple days, and if so any suggestions on what will work best?  The doc that pretty much gave me any opiate I wanted is willing to give me what I need to detox.  I know there isn't anything that's going to make it easy, but any suggestions from your experience would be appreciated.
