withdrawl from xanax

hey
I need some guidance on this one.
my husband has been taking xanax (really abusing it) since January. It started out with that and oxy, but the oxy was too much of a hassle. he has stopped breathing and put on a ventilator (Spelling ?) and has been hospitalized twice for being confused. I am convinced he has some kind of seizure.
This past week he spent 10 days in jail for changing the quantity on a script. for the first 5 days he called me 3 times a day, then nothing. I thought he was stabbed or something. Then 2 days later I get back to back phone calls from the jail he is in bad shape again, really confused they think he had a seizure. I told them about the xanax, (ya think they would have bothered to look at why he was in there in the first place) after a few hours of panic on the phone they told me they would give him small doses of haldol and ativan. later that night I get a call from our local hospital, he is there and confused. The frikin uptight guard wouldnt let me talk to him to see just how confused he was, so the Dr's couldnt really tell what was going on.
anyway, a day later his parole was comming and i get a call from the hospital to pick him up at midnight. since then he has been on the couch, just staring, he has jerks alot. I am putting food and alot of water in him and am watching him closly.
Can anyone shed some light on if I should be getting him back to the hospital? or am I ok at home. what else should i expect? and for how long? This man by all rights should be gone. he has gone thru like a script of 60 pills in 24 - 48 hours. more than once.
please, help me. I have been sober for a few years but i am no doctor. no one will tell me what happen to him. so how do i help him help himself???
Thanks for the time.
God Bless All of you.
BBoop.

WOW..that is alot to be taking and you are right to be concerned for him..xanax should never ever be stopped cold turkey for all the reasons you listed above. It is very dangerous and seizures/strokes are quite possible. I would call his dr. asap..xanax w/d is horrible. Obviously your husband needs to address his addiction issues and unfortunately you can only support him in making a decision to change, but he is the one that has to want to. You and your husband will be in my prayers. I wish I had better advice for you. I do believe that your husband needs medical attention..Please keep in touch and let us know how he's doing.
