Alcohol Neuropathy

Would like some help.  How long does it take one to get  alcohol neuropathy?  I have been drinking only beer for about 4 years (lite beer actually). If you break it down to an average, I have been drinking on average about 4 beers a day, some days more and some days not at all, while some days would reach 8 to 10.  That's why I say an average of 4.  Just wondering what my changes of getting alcohol neuropathy is.

Thanks

I have been drinking for 15 years. The last 8 years I was drinking everday all day, not beer, whiskey and jager with the red bull. I recently stopped drinking after I got this horrible pain in both my legs. My legs would just give out on me and I would fall. Its so bad im on a walker and cannot drive.. Its the worst pain I have ever felt!!!! Its hard to move around so I cant do much... Im also losing definition in my legs.. Its like when you see someone who is deathly skinny and there skin sinks in...They put me on lyrica... its ok but it doesn't help that much. I still feel pain 24/7. I have been on a ventilator, in jail, car wrecks and kicked out of many places. Don't do what I did, alcohol became my only device, nothing else mattered, not even my wife,,,now exwife because of alcohol, or my family. Alcohol makes you hurt the ones you love most!!!!!! Don't be like me,,, no job living off my parents, IF I CAN QUIT, TRUST ME, YOU CAN TOO!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi rpoo, I have been watching all your posts (get a kick out of some lol) and you are an inspiration my friend. Stick with it, you are doing well. This is a fantastic place for support. I will go look the liver disorder group post as I have not seen it.

I don't get  seizure now but did get them (pseudoseizures) during detox.

Yes peripheral neuropathy and alcohol neuropathy are the same, the way I was diagnosed was with Nerve Conduction Study s and Lab work. I also have low B12 levels and have been on monthly B12 shots for a few years now

Last October I was diagnosed  with peripheral neuropathy. I believe they are one in the same is that correct?

Also my diagnosis was made when a neurologist ran an EEG that showed my brain having one seizure after another so small I dont know I am having them. If they are the same are you medicated to control the seizures? Do you have seizures? I get the pins and needles though I am not diebetic.

I have a post in the liver disorders group that explains the rest of my story if you care to read it.

I would say you chances of messing up your liver are pretty good drinking that many beers. Plus you will get fat & get a beer gut like my brother did. STOP.

Beer has been especially linked to gout attacks. My brother was a big beer drinker until a year ago when he got gout.

Burning pain on the skin starting in the feet, pins and needles muscle cramps (calf muscles) and fasciculation (small muscle twitching under the skin that feel like ants crawling on your skin) are the first symptoms I experienced.

I think it is not so much the amount you drink but the way your body deals with it.

see a doctor, diagnosing through the internet will drive you crazy.

Hi rod44.  No I don't have diabetes.  I check my sugar regularly and it is around 92.  And no I have not been diagnosed with  Alcohol Neuropathy.  I was searching the internet about symptoms and that is why I am asking.

Hi,have you been tested for Diabetes?
Everyone is different, you need to conceder other health problems that could have an impact so it would be imposable to give you an answer.
If you have been diagnosed with  Alcohol Neuropathy then you need to stop drinking, each drink you take will cost you in pain. Eventually you have problems with muscle wasting and all that goes with it.
