Alcohol abuse

I am a 33 yr old female, 18 months ago I had recurrent yeast infections and alot of abdominal pain, was treated with antibiotics, then my face started burning and swelling they thought it was sinusitus but turned out it wasnt after more antibiotics (cause still inknown), all the pores on my face opened up (still are), becoming pitted and hairs started growing out of them and alot more on my body but the hair on my head kept falling out (still is), I then had an abnormal smear test and another yeast infection was told had lvl 3 cells had them removed by laser also had developed a lump on my labia, my body seems to be hormonally out of balance, my skin has lost all elasticity, I have been seen by 18 doctors had countless bloodtests, seen ENT consultants, gynaecologists, have had all std tests showed I had hpv, had abdominal scans e.t.c but I am still plagued by skin rashes and yeast infections, loose skin, acne, hair growth & loss & chemical sensitivities with no answers. My question is this I have a history of alcohol abuse, it started about 12 years ago when I had my child, I met a guy (who I spent 10 years with), could never get a babysitter so he started bringing beer into the house (only ever drank when I went out prior to this) after a year we were drinking a full bottle of scotch together every night,I had a very highly paid job god only knows how I kept it without being dicovered, after 10 years I left him tried to make a new start abroad it went wrong I began drinking again, this time I changed to drinking wine one bottle was never enough, recently my face started burning and swelling when I tried to stop, I have read on the internet about alcohol abuse and the lowered stability of adrenal gland production, also alcohol induced cushings syndrome (have some symptoms), then there is also the horrible possibility that I have ruined the lining in my gut resulting in leaky gut syndrome, though I can't find a reference between hirstuism and leaky gut, I can with pseudo cushings, I am on day 5 of no alcohol (although I seem to be smoking more), burning facial sensation is still there as well as cravings for pastries and bread which I have been trying to avoid whilst using probiotics and high absorption multi vits (I still feel no benefit and see no changes), do you think I am looking in the right direction at possible diagnosis (I never admitted alcohol abuse to my doctors) or could it be something else? Meanwhile until i find out i'll keep battling I hate being drunk now because I know how abusive I can get and how much of my life is still left to live without losing it all. Many thanks.

About a month ago I had a very sore throat, only on one side, the other side was fine !
Weird, I know.   The Dr put me on some strong Augmentin,  and also said I had a yeast infection on my tounge.  Gave me some pills that I desolved in my mouth for that.  I noticed abt. a week later that I also had a yeast infection from he!!  and used monistate 7  for that !!! Also had the whitish blisters down there too.   Well,  I am much better now, except for the thrush (mouth)  Mine got worse while on the antibiotics and as I said before,  I want it all to just go away.   I feel like my body is fighting off so many things right now that the yeast has just taken over,   the mucosal lineing is also in our nasal, throat, gut, and vaginal.  And probably places I am not aware of.   You are not alone,  I do not know if the alcohol has anything to do with it but doesn't it contain yeast ?? The immune system can get over laden with fighting off stuff.   I sure would be open abt. everything with the Doctor,  he may be more able to help you get over this.  best wishes

Hi there.leaving the alcohol out of the equation when seeking medical help is not a good idea as stated above. It may have nothing to do with your condition, but it could certainly have some impact. Alcohol, especially when used in greater than moderate amounts, has been found to be potentially damaging to almost all parts of the body. Additionally, have you been exposed to any sort of chemical compounds that could account for your symptoms? Often such symptoms can be traced back to such exposures or a combination of factors, of which alcohol consumption may be a contributor. I commend you on your abstinence so far and as also stated above, highly recommend AA and/or counseling to help you maintain your sobriety. Hope this is helpful and take care-GM

You have to get totally honest with your doctor before any of your medical issues will be resolved.  Alcohol can throw a monkey wrench into the mix.  Self diagnosis isnt going to get you the help you may need.

Check into some sort of aftercare for your drinking.  You dont have to be a prisoner to this any longer.  Keep us posted           sara

Hi, I cannot say what is causing your medical issues, have you had thyroid tests, blood sugars checked? you MUST give all your history to your Doctor so as to get a proper diagnoses.

You have as you most likely realize a drink problem, like all problems of this nature you will need help with both the Physical AND the emotional issues surrounding Alcoholism. Your Doctor will give you the medical support you need, go to a 12 step or some such program for the inevitable emotional issues. For me it was AA but this is a personal decision only you can make.

best of luck and pleas keep us posted
