Alcoholism

Does alcohol detoxification treatment really treats the physical effects of prolonged use of alcohol. Can an alcoholic be treated without getting himself admitted in India and for how long generally the treatment continues. My husband is a heavy drinker and its almost 17 years since he has been drinking regularly and the result is he is unable to avoid a single day as his legs start paining. His has a busy schedule . Kindly advise . My email id is ***@****. If possible kindly advise rehabilitation centres in Jammu (India)

Hello,
There are serveral medications used to treat the Alcohol Withdraws. edw83 is exactly right the withdraws can become very violent and dangerous in some patients. I myself was very fortunate. I managed to stop drinking alcohol evernight and the only withdraw I suffered was a fever lasting a couple days. I drank 23 beers a day, totaling $600 a month. Never needed AA or rehab. Remember this is probably not very common  but it should help you realize that everyone if affected differently. best wish, Randy

Alcohol detox is one of the hardest on the body's and it isn't wise to quit drinking on ones own, in fact it can be deadly Kudos to him for manning up and calling it quits but he really does need to be in a rehabilitation clinic so that they can observe and be ready for any seizures that may occur.  Best of luck!
