help

I was sober for 3 years. Lost it when I had to start taking pain meds for a knee injury. Now, I'm turning back to alcohol (right now I'm drinking and crying) I need support. Never had it, (my family is a mess) and noticed not having it is the biggest problem. Does anyone understand?

You didn't mention what you did to stay sober the 3 years....  I have been where you are.  But, I had a program and a sponsor.  If you don't, perhaps it is time to jump into AA.  The pills and the alcohol is called cross addiction. I was taught if you have to take anything addictive for pain and can't control yourself, let someone else have the control over your pain medication to dispense to you.  You have went through a relapse.  You can't do it on your own.  We have proved that many times.  Recovery does not mean that we have to become a different person, it means we start being ourselves again.  I understand, we have a disease and the nature of the disease is the addicton part.  Get going on recovery...

What kind of pain meds are you taking and how many? I'm still tapering now, today is not a good day but I found that reading other peoples posts and going on forums is helping me some  this mornig.  I also do not have a support system except for this forum. My family does not know and are not emotionaly able to help me and my husband has no idea either. PM me if you want to tell your story or just need to vent, it helps me.

You are special and unique no matter what anyone say's.  Forgiveness just doesn't include thoes around you but forgiving is also forgiving yourself.  I can't preach to you about religion but I can tell you that I love you and no matter what you have ever done in your life, either drunk or not.  The hardest thing to do is to forgive yourself.  Will you forgive me if I forgive you... Of course you will, right?  All human kind is fallibale,  No one can preach to the quier.  It takes more than one person to rise above and let your voice be heard. Then again you can join your voice to those people who have felt your pain and hopeless and the hatred that the norm gives to you.  There are many people that you can share you experience to.  But never be discouraged because always know either drunk or sober you are special and every hunman only tries tio do their best, in what they know..... think about it....

REMEMBER YOU ARE ONLY HUMAN.....

We are all here for you. I know that you are beating yourself up right now because you have fallen back, but that does not mean you have to continue down that path. It is hard to not to back slide when you are put in a position of taking pain meds, but you can stop, because you are stronger then that. You were sober for three years, so I know you can do it again. Please pm me if you need someone to talk to.
